City Council Rejects Proposed Gas Rate Increase

City council members vote unanimously against raising the gas rate to 90 cents per thousand cubic feet. A public service committee report argues the department can operate at a 38 cent margin plus 32 cents for artificial gas, while reconditioning mains could lower costs and avoid leakage losses.

City Gas Rates Proposal From Hamilton Committee

City Council committee notes wholesale natural gas cost at 50c per thousand cubic feet. After July 1926 artificial gas wholesale cost to Hamilton set at 32c per thousand cubic feet, 18c under current 50c, permitting a 38c operating margin without rate change. Service Director suggests 90c rate, enabling a 40c operating margin.

Gas Mains Security Urged to Halt Rate Increases

Wheeler clears in federal indictment over fraud charges

Senator Burton K Wheeler and co defendants were cleared after Judge Jennings Bailey sustained the defense demurrer. The District of Columbia supreme court judge ruled the indictment failed to charge a violation of the law and was invalid. The ruling found the federal land act does not cap permits nor permit the interior secretary to extend beyond the act. The government may appeal, but Wheeler scores a major victory amid his fight with former Attorney General Daugherty. A self starter only works when you put your foot on it.
