A contemporary essay attacks the push to incorporate trade unions arguing that incorporation shifts risk away from bosses and onto unions. It contrasts partnerships and corporations, warns of court espionage, and defends unions as social bodies linked to members' intellect and morale.
The Ohio State Federation of Labor executive board in Columbus considered old age pensions and financing. A stamp plan would have unions sell ten 10 cent stamps monthly for ten months to fund a potential $1.00 per day pension bill. Members would track purchases in stamped booklets to show contribution.
In Denver 27 striking meatpackers including a woman were jailed for 1 to 60 days after refusing a court order to return to work. Names and sentences include Timothy McCreash 60 days and W V W Hays seven days, with Rose Travison among those given one day. The court upheld the Colorado can’t strike law amid union defense and pending appeals.
