Chicago Traction Workers Win Pay and Insurance by Arbiter Award

Chicago street car and elevated employes reach a wage and insurance settlement by arbitration through June 1 1980. The award grants 1 cent an hour increases on June 1 this year and June 1 1929 plus a $1000 life policy and a $20 weekly sickness benefit for surface line workers. About 22 000 traction workers are affected with elevated lines included for wage adjustments but not in the new insurance.

The AFL executive council endorsed the Shipstead anti injunction bill and urged drafting a Sherman act conspiracy suit measure. It planned a February Washington conference with national and international unions. The Union Labor Life Insurance Company plans broad agency expansion across the country by creating general agencies in states and large cities. California Michigan Ohio Washington Kansas City Chicago and New York are already served with more centers planned as the New York office reports its highest ever first-month production since its January 28 opening.
