President Wilson appoints a strike board in Colorado amid labor tensions. Authorities designate a panel to study wage disputes and plant shutdowns, with the aim of averting further confrontation. Local owners face scrutiny as the union movement challenges management.
President Wilson announces a three member commission to resolve future disputes between miners and mine operators in Colorado after a yearlong strike. The named members are Seth Low, Charles W Mills, and Patrick Gilday, with mediation aiming to prevent further violence and restore order.
Analysis shows early federal workmen's compensation claims from 1908 to 1913 with 1046 allowed injuries including 447 fatal cases. Total payouts reached $1,800,000 with $732,000 to Isthmian Canal Commission workers. Many awards were insufficient, with minor injuries yielding low sums and severe losses still providing modest payments.
The American Federation of Labor convention urged the executive council to provide a home for the federation. Officers have latitude to buy or construct an office building.
