Berry Urges Private Jobs to End Unemployment Crisis

George L. Berry, Roosevelt's industrial program leader, calls on U.S. business chambers to join the Council for Industrial Progress in tackling unemployment and the misdistribution of income. Newspaper Guild Receives AFL Charter in New York Meeting

William Green, AFL president, presented the American Newspaper Guild charter at the Hotel Biltmore. He urged democratic rule within unions and warned against minority control, stressing AFL’s aim to raise living standards for newspaper workers while respecting press freedom. Aluminum Company raises wages for 20000 workers

After month long talks with A F of L unions the Aluminum Company of America grants a three cent an hour wage increase for 20000 hourly employees across six plants. The raise, effective September 15, is a five percent boost and brings hourly pay 11 percent above 1929 levels. J W Wilson VP stated readiness to discuss mutual interests with designated union representatives.

Philadelphia Will Get Two Man Cars

Philadelphia Rapids Transit Co will replace many one man trolley cars with two man cars in September on three busy lines. The change comes after pressure from Mayor Wilson amid years of streetcar employee protests and public support for the switch.
