NLRB Sets August 20 For Elections At Atomic Plants

The National Labor Relations Board set August 20 21 and 22 for union representation elections at three Oak Ridge Tennessee bomb processing plants. AFL filed petitions in 1944 and the polls will be held separately for Monsanto Chemical Tennessee Eastern Corporation and Carbide and Carbon Chemical Corp under special supervision to protect security.

Warning Issued To Owners Of Dogs Quarantine

Police chief John C. Calhoun ordered arrests for dog quarantine violations. Officers must identify owners, warn them first, then cite to court if uncooperative. Violators face a fifty dollar fine plus costs.

Ration Details Update for Book 4 and Meat Fats

Spare stamp 49 (Book 4) valid until August 31 for five pounds. Spare stamps 9 and 10 (Book 4) worth five pounds of canning sugar valid until October 31. Meat rationing continues with dealers paying four cents per pound for used fats. Ration period 45 expires August 17. All whiskey rationed except two cane spirit brands.

AFL Council to Map Campaign For Election of Better Congress

The AFL Executive Council will meet August 12 to plan intensified political activity for the coming Congressional campaign. The federation aims to mobilize its seven million members to back lawmakers with pro labor voting records while denying a formal political action committee. Other topics include inflation control, world peace policies, a Maritime Council, Southern organizing drives, and AFL representation in the International Labor Organization. A two year report for the 65th national convention is also planned for October 7.
