INTERNAT S BARBERS UNION TO CONVENE INDIANAPOLIS MEETING

The eighteenth convention of the Journeymen Barbers International Union of America will gather in Indianapolis starting September 15 with about 1200 delegates. Headquarters at Claypool Hotel and Tomlinson Hall host sessions. topics include education and organization. William Birthright leads as general president and general secretary treasurer, with an executive board featuring leaders from across the country. The union, formed in 1887, has long been affiliated with the AFL.

AFL Council Tackles Unemployment Price Control and Defense

The AFL Executive Council met at the Drake Hotel Chicago to discuss defense unemployment, price control, foreign policy support for the President, labor legislation, and defense housing. President Green reported on defense progress. the council urged no reappointment of Edwin S. Smith to the NLRB and planned the Seattle convention report.

Butler County Fair Directors Raise Harness Purse

The fair board met in the courthouse to detail plans for the county fair September 21 to 27. Secretary Joan Cochran said purses in harness racing rise this year with the free-for-all doubling to 600 dollars and the Thursday trotting race increasing from 300 to 500 dollars, signaling a stronger event.

American Girl title eyed by 65 in Butler County

Sixty five Butler County girls, representing the physical and mental charm of the average American girl, will be chosen as members of the Court of Honor for the Coronation Ball during the Hamilton Butler County Sesqui Centennal Celebration. Five queens and 60 attendants will be selected by votes from nominations and coupons, with Our American Girl as the top queen.
