Labor And Industry Agree On Practical Training Program

Unanimous agreement by a committee of labor and industry leaders plans a general conference with defense industries, labor, and government agencies to promote state and local training efforts. The program focuses on apprenticeships, retraining, and upgrading workers for key defense production, with less emphasis on academic training. June Employment Up Nearly Million

Washington report shows 235000 non agricultural workers returning May to June raising June employment to year high and over 900000 more than June 1939. Factory employment rose about 50000 from May to June with war material industries expanding. Aircraft firms and shipbuilding also added workers while autos and textiles declined. Wall St bankers profited from Missouri Pacific reorg

Senate Inter state Commerce Committee report shows Kuhn, Loeb & Company and other bankers earned nearly 9.5 million in 1921 to 1930 while railroad officers were paid 6.069 million. The 1915-17 reorganization expanded debt, reduced long term obligations briefly, then financing via fixed-interest debt erased benefits, leading to the 1933 bankruptcy. The panel warns the episode holds lessons for future reorganizations of Missouri Pacific.

Fingerprinting Of Aliens To Start Aug 27

Government plan ushers nationwide registration under Alien Registration Act of 1940. More than three and a half million aliens to be fingerprinted in post offices from August 27. Non citizens 14 or older must register. penalties include fines up to 1000 dollars and six months imprisonment. Specimen forms being distributed to collect required information.
