The American Federation of Labor reports higher July unemployment across trades. In 24 cities, 21 percent were out of work, up from 20 percent in June. Building and metal trades show steep declines, while seafaring and shipping trade improved.
Five thousand women, mostly colored, waited all night in Washington for government charwoman jobs. Only 200 positions were available, with a 1000 applicant limit. Pay is 90 dollars a month. many sought the posts though already employed, hoping for better pay.
New York City report states William Reuter vice president and Emil Preiss business manager of Local 3 IBEW were fined 250 each for alleged contempt of court. The fines follow an attempt to induce a strike by electricians at Utility Electric Company as per a White Plains Supreme Court decision.
