The American Federation of Teachers has grown to about 10,000 members across the nation with locals from universities to normal schools. President Charles B. Stillman says affiliation with labor groups will boost wages, influence legislation, and connect teachers to the industrial life while preserving autonomy.
Friendship Aid Society No. 1 announces its annual lawn fete and dance on Thursday evening August 14 at St. Anthony's Hall. Dancing will be free with good music provided. The event draws a large crowd as usual.
Beginning last Monday the Liberty Machine Tool Company workers gain 5 cents an hour. Most city machinists have seen wage boosts in three months while Hamilton and Black and Clawson face strikes. Local Union No. 241 officers guide Bakers Union Local No. 81 into a confident year.
A large Hooven Owetsjae plant meeting of all machinists is scheduled for Sunday at nine in the Trades Council. Officials say matters of great importance to every craft member will be discussed and urge full attendance.
Bakers Union Local 81 met in Trades Council Hall No 3 on Saturday July 19 with nearly all members present. Officers were elected led by President Frank Goetker. other matters included craft concerns and a report that unlabeled bread is scarce in Hamilton. Brother Frank Heinrich returned from service and joined Occident Baking Company.
