Refinery Ordered to Bargain With Union Across Plant
The National Labor Relations Board ordered Atlantic Refining Co to meet with the Oil Field Gas Well and Refinery Workers union at the Brunswick Georgia plant to negotiate on wages hours and working conditions. The board said collective bargaining means negotiating as a group through representatives and not handling only individual grievances. More than 100 of 123 employees were union members yet the company refused to negotiate, and the board ordered an election to determine employee representation at Belmont Stamping Enameling Co in New Philadelphia Ohio. The NLRB also ordered Harbor Boatbuilding Co to bargain with the Ship Carpenters Caulkers and Joiners Union and certified Branch 69 of the American Federation of Hosiery Workers for John Blood & Co in Boyertown Pa following a secret election. Since inception the board logged 65 charges affecting 5 364 workers, closing 56 cases covering 7 227 workers with 32 settlements for 4 964 employers.
