Postal Employees Picnic At Gum Creek Locals Attend

Gum Creek Station hosted a weekend gathering of postal workers and families from Tetowle Saddleworth Clare and nearby areas with about 120 attendees. Officials praised the site and committee work while a lively sports program featured events like Sheffield race telephonists and female assistants, three legged races, and prize giving before a sing song.

Burra Bowls Lose to Clare in Weekend Match

Burra Green and Clare clubs met with Clare posting 83 to 62 over Burra Green. Burra Golds had a bye as a pennant weekend halted for a free day. Next Saturday a break for all pennant matches with club rink championship games scheduled and a draw posted for sectional play at 2:30 p.m.

Finals of Quiz Competition at Burra

The finals of the Quiz Competition at Burra are being prepared for the Australia wide radio program Country Quiz to be staged in the Burra Town Hall on Friday 10 November. Mr Clifford Doda of Macquarie Broadcasting Network visits Burra with Mrs Dodd and stays at the Commercial Hotel. Liberal and Country League organiser Mr Ht. B. Gordon and public relations officer Mr C. G Kerr are visiting Burra in connection with Country Quiz.

Burra Plaitan Infantry Plagued by Low Enrollment

C M F members sworn in as the Burra platoon of the 27th Scottish faces slow recruitment. Only six of twelve required have joined. two founders, Mesars EK Bruce and N Marston, were sworn in at Clare. OC Lieut R Campbell reports parades will occur at Clare once sufficient numbers are reached.

Dobson Transferred from Burra Bank of Australasia

Mr M G Dobson longtime Burra branch manager receives transfer to Brunswick Branch Melbourne Victoria. He previously lived in Burra in 1922 and 1927 workspolit activities and has been a strong town figure. A public farewell is planned at the Town Hall on Wednesday 8 pm.

Joyce Hopkins Fifth in State Nursing Exam

Joyce Hopkins daughter of Mr and Mrs C Hopkins of Burra earned a Gold Medal for placing fifth in a statewide nursing examination. She is now a fully qualified Sister, trained at River ton and Adelaide Hospitals with three years of study and a nine month illness gap. Sister Hopkins plans to continue work at Adelaide Hospital.

Fete Despite Dust Storm Raises Funds at Yunta Hall

In a fierce dust storm the Yunta Waltkar inga Branch of the W A held a Strawberry Fete at Yunta Hall on Saturday November 6. Donations supported by stalls and afternoon tea yielded £72. The Dolling Group President opened the event introduced by Mr E L Wade. Mrs Alford received a thanks from Secretary Mrs Dellen. Music by M F Briggs and Ouyhens followed with a dance finale.

Burra High P and F Association Holds November Meeting

The Burra High School P and F Association held its usual monthly meeting on 16 November. Mrs Anderson sent apologies. Plans were made for the year end banquet. Mrs Miele offered to provide ice cream. The trading table was managed by Mesdames Brereton and Waller, with afternoon tea served by Mesdames Jennizon and Pederick.
