Burra CWA Rest Rooms Opened At Town Hall

About 100 Indies attended the opening of the Burra Branch of the CWA Rest Rooms in the Burra Town Hall. The project, aided by the Town Council, features cream walls, green linoleum, a kitchenette, and a new crockery set. Presidents and members from nearby branches joined the ceremony, and Mrs P J Pickering declared the rooms open.

Buffs to clash with Koonpone on November and December dates

The Buff Cricket Team will represent Buffs against Koonpone on the 2nd of November and the 4th of December. Players listed include Radford, W Kotz, Habba, Short, Edwards, Spackman, Phillips, Dobson, Allen, McBride, Johnson, Rev. B Pettet, with Taylor and G Ka as reserves.

Small turnout and dull scores in W. G. Woodman Trophy shoot

Burra range hosted the twelfth W. G. Woodman Trophy with the smallest rifleman attendance in years and unusually low scores across the state. Secretary Jock Bernhardt led in both the Marksman and Trophy sections, while Tom Heinrich returned to form after illness. The day featured hard conditions and several shooters failed to reach century status, despite years of pre-war high scores.

Booborowie Ladies Club plans 1949 exhibition and fund drive

The November meeting chaired by Mrs W J Shattock discussed the Food for Britain Appeal funds of £59 1 0 with final totals expected around £60. Plans for a 1949 exhibition on 30 April with a daytime display and evening dance were set to raise money for the local hall, plus a December social afternoon to add funds for kitchen upgrades. Donations from Mrs and Miss McCormack and others supported the Food for Britain appeal and ration-card aid for children of Adelaide Children’s Hospital.

Burra High School Students Visit Town Council

Burra H S students attended a Monday town council meeting with Head Master H Pederick and Miss A Hill. Mayor F T Marston welcomed them and urged open meetings and town involvement as students learned about local governance and voluntary service.
