Burra Girl Witnesses Coronation Day Observations

Miss June Dellman of Burra, living in London, mails a firsthand account of Coronation day. She describes crowds, attire, royal processions, coaches, peers in red velvet and ermine, and the Queen’s gold carriage. She notes cold weather, partial sun, a marquee, and planned broadcasts and fireworks before returning to her hotel.

Burra Cemetery Improvements and Weekend Work

Twelve volunteers worked at Burra Cemetery improving grounds and removing cork elm suckers. Four drums were installed for refuse, and a new flower area was prepared for visitors. The Mayor invites a town band and thanks three men who assisted so far. more work is planned next weekend.

Week-end Sports roundup spars about Saturday games

The summary notes Hallett edging Bootbrowie by five points 114 to 62 in a low scoring win. Spalding easily beat Tecowls 26-25 to 2-1, Leighton defeated Butra by 10 points, and a low scoring 6-11 to 5T. Only one Saturday basketball game Spalding versus Terowie ended 1 to 15 while all other teams had a bye.

Football and Basketball at Cadell July 1 match

An inter association football and basketball event between the North Eastern and Mid Murray associations moves from Romeo to Cadell on July 1. North Eastern Basketball players will travel. Morgan hosts events including a dance on Saturday night and Sunday tours of Mor Sheena. The Cedell Packing voting lists NE representative players and rosters, with first and second teams named and reserves listed.

Football Tribunal Meeting Report on Player Suspensions

Five players were reviewed after Saturday matches dated 6th dune. A tribunal at Backcrowle on 11th Jane stood down three players for one match each and one player for two matches, while the case against A Clapp of Bonherowie was dismissed. Players stood down: B Pointan Terowie J Begott EK Dutis Spalding for one match. A Burton Terowie for two matches.

New district clerk N Patiian, resident of Buss for four years, takes posts in Adelaide and serves as Clerk of the District Council since 1949. H J Foote becomes Burra secretary, Foblen joins Methodist roles, and T G Perry to assume district ground clerkship. Pacey, ex F.A.X. man, eyed to lead La Fiunte council. location at Wudinna yet unclear.

Rain Disrupts Rifle Shoot in Spruragy June 39

Weather rain and wind disrupted a rifle meet at Spruragy. J. H. Schwier had planned to shoot at 830 yards but rain delayed the event. Scores at 830 yards were generally low, with Bill Corner topping the range with 32 and Jim Brows and Peter Betts each scoring 31. Final stage of the Gehber Trophy postponed to next batt.

Burra Show Society Meeting Attended and Plans

The Burra Show Society held in the Show Offices on Friday was well attended with Mr W. B. Loyd presiding. Donations offered included one dozen Pinus Arizonas by Mr BR W Humphrys, accepted for a yearly tree-planting campaign. Sir Philip Metiride to open the 1953 Show as Gov Governor unable to attend. Ceremony at 12:45 pm on 10 October in front of the Show Hall. Changes approved to Grain and Fodder sections, Swine section deleted due to lack of support. Pigeon Coops tender awarded to Fred M. Pearce & Sons to add capacity for extra birds. Mr H. L. Foote elected secretary in place of Mr F. Panhan. Past services appreciated for Fabian. Judges appointed. meeting closed.

Constable Wilson to Retire From Burra North Police Station

Constable Wilson, in charge at Burra North Police Station for about four years, begins his long leave before retirement in June. J. McInerney currently at Marghetvale will arrive shortly to assume duties at Burra North Police Station.

Rain Soothed By Light Showers Across Burra District

Rain fell intermittently across the Burra Districts pastures and Baston holdings with limited runoff. Dams remain fed as catchments saturate, though further light showers may bring water into the dams. First Homing Race For Season Burra Club Opens

Burra Homing Club opened its season with a modest race at Carrieton on a sprint distance of 1000 yards. Conditions were calm with no wind assistance, favorable to fanciers. Winner was C Moore, an early rate specialist, clocking 1000 yards per minute, followed by F Brandt at 962 yards per minute.
