Burnet Chamber Proposes Roundtable Discussions Starting June

Burnet Chamber of Commerce invites public ideas for community improvement in six focus areas at four roundtable sessions beginning June 3 at the Fair Barn. Six tables, each area led by chamber directors, will rotate for 10 to 15 minute discussions with voting on top ideas.

CB Radio Thefts Hit Marble Falls Homes Hard

City Marshal Reinhard Reed reports more than $1,000 in losses from three thefts between Thursday evening and Friday morning. Three citizen band radios and an antique rifle were taken from autos in Northwood Dr Rivercrest Apartments and Meadowlakes with entries through windows. Engines and serial numbers were not recorded by owners, hindering recovery. Reed suggests recording serial numbers and urges CB owners statewide to note IDs for deterrence.

Marble Falls School Board Accepts Resignations and Hires

In a special Marble Falls School Board meeting, Superintendent Howard Murchison and Tax Assessor-Collector Leonard Storey resigned. Larry Pope’s resignation was not accepted. Three new teachers were hired and board kept focus on administrative changes and personnel matters.

Teachers Resigned Under Pressure At Marble Falls School Board

Marble Falls School Board held an executive session to discuss resignations by two teachers, Michael Hadd and Mrs. Fadean Wilson. Hadd said he felt pressured to resign and sought board review. Wilson declined comment. The board did not vote on personnel matters during the session.

Ambulance Decision Postponed By Burnet County Court

Burnet County Commissioners approved a $350 MHMR allocation to cover May and June rent for a new Marble Falls clinic site on Ave E. They postponed a decision on a county ambulance service until October budget hearings while opposing tax increases.

Absentee Voting Underway for Burnet County Runoff

Burnet County offices close Monday for Memorial Day but the County Clerk’s Office stays open 2-5 p m Saturday for absentee voting in the Democratic Primary runoff. Races include sheriff railroad commissioner and Court of Criminal Appeals judge with candidates Riddell Rhoades Sadler Newton Dally Phillips. Absentee voting runs through Tuesday with June 1 deadline for mail ballots.

BBQ To Honor Poage Friday

Burnet Chamber declares Friday Bob Poage Day honoring U S Representative W R Poage. Poage will speak at the Burnet Foundation Industrial Company annual membership barbecue at 7 p m in Industrial Park. He is recognized for aiding a federal Farmer's Home Administration grant that fed utilities to the park. The barbecue is open to all Industrial Foundation members and guests free of charge. A post meal briefing will describe the foundation and invite new members.
