Graduation Exercises at MFHS Stadium May 31

Graduation exercises will be held at MFHS football stadium at 8 00 p m on Friday evening May 31 weather permitting Speakers include Salutatorian Douglas Mezger and Valedictorian Robin Rutherford Principal James Gosdin will award diplomas with Elroy Schorn School Board president Also present will be fourth ranking student Steve Jones who gives the benediction Music by the High School Band directed by Tome Walters with guitar by Jack Benson and piano by Fred Webster who perform the class song Blowing In the Wind

FFA Rodeo Planned for Howdy-Roo Festival

The Marble Falls FFA Chapter prepares its First Annual FFA Rodeo tied to the Howdy-Roo Festival on June 7 and 8. Lester Meier of Fredericksburg produces the show. Entry blanks and tickets are available through Marble Falls FFA members or the Vocational Agriculture Department of Marble Falls High School.

Marble Falls All-Sports Banquet Honors Local Athletes

About 450 attendees gathered at the Horseshoe Bay pool for Marble Falls High School’s All-Sports Banquet on May 20. Emory Bellard of Texas A&M spoke, after introductions by MFHS coach Jack Henry and Wranglers club president E A Heldridge. A $2000 donation from local families honored C A Barnett to fund a baseball field.

Mustangs Win Bi-District In Elgin Thriller

Marble Falls Mustangs rally from 5-0 deficit to beat Elgin 6-5 in extra innings and claim the bi district crown. Pitcher Byron Lewis settled after early trouble, delivering the decisive eighth inning and setting up Tommy Carmona’s game winning single. Next round pits Marble Falls against San Antonio Cole.

Meadowlakes forms Municipal Utilities District in council vote

Meadowlakes City Council on May 14 created Meadowlakes MUD after rezoning an 8.72 acre tract from residential to industrial. The measure, moved by H F Schnelle and seconded by J Lee Mezger, passed unanimously with zoning map amendments. The district lies within Marble Falls ETJ.

New Rural Telephone Rates Take Effect May 28

Rural Marble Falls customers will see new telephone rates starting May 28 1974 announced by D G Reese General Telephone Division Manager Brownwood. The change shifts rural pricing to reflect higher costs of rural facilities and service with longer lines less dense customer bases and more maintenance and outages Follow up steps applied previously to business customers across Texas to align charges with service level received.

Sewage Disposal Hearing Set For Lake LBJ Expansion

A public hearing in Austin on May 29 will review Lake LBJ Municipal Utility District's plan to expand sewage disposal capacity. The LBJ MUD plant near FM 2147 and FM 71 now treats 500000 gpd with irrigation use on a 160 acre golf course. Proposal adds two 500000 gpd units, increasing effluent to be dumped into Lake LBJ after chlorination and retention.

Marble Falls Chamber Banquet Draws Over 200 Attendees

The Marble Falls Chamber of Commerce banquet drew more than 200 attendees at the high school cafeteria on Friday May 17. Outgoing president Bob Cloud served as master of ceremonies and Rev. Max Copeland gave the invocation. A Burnet delegation in bright green blazers attended among other guests.

Dallas Cowboys star Bob Lilly spoke at Marble Falls with anecdotes from Throckmorton's youth and lessons on unity. He urged citizens to participate, noting the first step is voting, and proceeds supported the Marble Falls Volunteer Fire Department.

Reverend Copeland Named Citizen of the Year at Chamber

Larry Chrisman presented a Past President Award plaque to Bob Cloud and the Outstanding Citizen Award to Rev. Max Copeland. The honoree’s identity had been kept secret until this time. Cloud spoke on the Chamber’s accomplishments during the 1973 74 year and Chrisman expanded on its success.
