Work Activity Center Opens In Burnet

A Work Activity Center for the retarded opened in the old Burnet Junior High building after months at temporary sites. It will serve Burnet County residents not in school or employed with programs in socialization, recreation, pre vocational training, personal hygiene, and self help skills. Six to twelve participants are anticipated with a director funded by Travis State School, a non profit group relying on local support.

Shepperd Memorial Hospital Earns Joint Commission Accreditation

During the week of March 10 Shepperd Memorial Hospital underwent a full Joint Commission survey and received a clean bill of health. The two day inspection covered building safety patient care and emergency services with praise for high standards and up-to-date facilities including X ray and lab capabilities. Accreditation is voluntary and renewed biennially, and Shepperd has maintained the seal for 25 years.
