Races Taking Shape for April 5 Election

Ballot spaces for the Burnet Consolidated Independent School District board race were filling as of March 5 with the filing deadline at midnight. Ed Bates Hardy Whitfield and Johnny DeSpain filed for Place 2 while incumbent Tom Henry had not filed by press time.

All-Sports Banquet of Champions Sets March 21

Burnet High School hosts the annual all-sports banquet with the Burnet Booster Club honoring athletes from all sports. Guest speaker is Coach Cotton Davidson of Baylor University. Festivities begin at 7 00 pm with a barbecue meal from Inmans and pies from Booster Ladies. Tickets are 3 dollars at the high school.

Burnet CofC Members To Attend State Meeting

Burnet Chamber of Commerce members will attend the Texas State Chamber of Commerce meeting in Austin on March 10. The State Chamber unites West Texas East Texas and Lower Rio Grande Valley chambers with leaders including Governor Dolph Briscoe Lt Governor Hobby Speaker Clayton and Attorney General Hill. E Bruce Street WTCC State Affairs Chairman said the biennial event gathers 700 leaders to hear plans and actions for the current legislative session.

Burnet Opens New Intermediate School After Tornado

A large crowd attended the dedication and open house for Burnet Intermediate School on March 4 1973. The project funded by insurance and Impact Aid, with no extra local cost, featured performances by the Sixth, Seventh and Eighth Grade Bands and the Intermediate Choir. Dr M G Bowden spoke on goals for education, stressing organization curriculum instruction and community involvement.
