Dick Zimmerman Marble Falls City manager and spokesman for a county wide citizens group appealed to the commissioners for support in gaining Quot better ambulance Zimmerman informed the commissioners of the ambulance committee s recommendation that Quot a county wide private ambulance service be instituted on a 24-hour Zimmerman told the commissioners Quot yes we have ambulance service in Burnet county no we Don t have trained Hill country ambulance service in Austin represented by Al Figer and Bill Lane presented the commissioners with a proposal asking for their company to be paid costs plus 20 per cent for 24 hour county wide ambulance service. Lane said that any Revenue would be deducted from the total monthly costs. Zimmerman said Hill country ambulance s estimated monthly Cost would be approximately $5,000 commissioner Beck Hibler told the group Quot i Don t see How we can afford it and added Quot maybe a Volunteer ambulance would Quot where will the Money come from i think we would have to raise taxes Quot commissioner Gene Clements said. No action was taken by the commissioners but they did Quot agree to continue looking into the problems and possibilities of obtaining a county wide ambulance the commissioners did however award $1,500 to the Hill country soil and conservation District which includes Burnet and Lampasas counties. Don Alexander representing the District told the commissioners that the Lampasas county commissioners will also contribute $1,500 and that the state will match the sum of $3,000. Burnet county sheriff Wallace Ridden appeared before the commissioners and made two requests. He asked for a new vehicle for the department and was denied. The commissioners did agree to raise the Board rate for county jail prisoners from $3 to $5 per Day at the sheriff s request. A representative of the welfare department discussed the possibility of the county allowing them to occupy the old Burnet bulletin office on the South West Corner of the Square for offices. The county must maintain the exterior of the building and furnish utilities while the welfare department is responsible for Interior repairs and maintenance. In other business the commissioners discussed the disperse contests remain unchanged Burnet prior to the bulletin s deadline no new candidates had filed for the Burnet or Marble Falls school Board elections or the Marble Falls City Council race. In the race for the Marble Falls school Board positions incumbents John Mead and John Cammack Are seeking re election. Cammack is being challenged by Gaye Bergman. Marble Falls mayor Dean Chafee is unopposed in his bid for re election. Marble Falls aldermen Duane Michel and . Schnelle or. Have filed for re election.
