The Council on a motion by Dan Haynes and seconded by teacher loses re instatement bid by Richard Morea Burnet Burnet intermediate school teacher Patricia Huck Stein tuesday night failed in an attempt to gain a reversal in the Burnet Iso Board s decision to not renew her teaching discipline Between herself and the students As causes for dismissal she said. Meeting in a special called meeting the Board reviewed each of the seven items stated in the school District s Energy policy adopted in de Comber of 1973 school superintendent Robert Wilkin voiced comments on each of the items beginning with the policy of cutting off every other electric bulb or florescent tube used in the school system. Quot we re still operating on this principal but one office of the governor s committee told us to turn the lights off and another division s investigator told us to turn some of the Hall lights Back on Quot said Wilkin. The two divisions of the governor s commit tee Are in conflict with each other Quot he added. Wilkin said the Energy policy called to the elimination of the High school parking Light my. Also voting against the zoning change were Derell Cowan and Bill Wilcox. Prior to the motion to approve the Appeal Haynes moved that the Council instruct City zoning administrator Bill Goble to study water sewage and fire Protection in the area to Quot determine what the City might be Quot out Quot in providing those services to Multi family housing. Royal Burton a member of the zoning commission pointed out that the developers would be unable to get a building permit if the City could t provide the services. Another member of the zoning commission Ramsey Clinton who stated his Strong opposition to going against the wishes of nearby residents Many of whom were present declared that Quot if this motion passes then we have no reason to meet tomorrow Quot suggesting that the commis Sion s decisions could be Over turned. Quot i feel we re placing an undue Burden on our zoning commission by placing them under this stress Quot said Cowan mayor Howard Benton broke a tie vote concerning the motion to have Goble study Utility services voting no. But for ten minutes no motions were made finally Haynes moved to approve the Appeal saying Quot i told myself when i ran for this office that i d do what i Felt would be Best for Burnet As a he stood alone however and the motion was Defeated following the vote the crowd of spectators Many of them homeowners in the area headed for the door and the Council took a break. Another zoning Appeal also came before the Council that of George Puckett to rezone his property at 200 n main the historical Cook Home from r i to c i commercial the request was denied unanimously by the zoning commission a week earlier. Appeal Puckett told the Council that a a a was speaking to some of the issues which involved the previous request. County clerk Wayne Barton stated to the commissioners a has "70 validated signatures a re required and there were 90 on the the petition had been fixed by Chester Pasek of Bertram.
