More than 325 Marble Falls Independent School District taxpayers met to discuss rising and unequal school taxes. The two hour meeting at the Auction Building on Highway 1431 aimed to formulate a plan to reduce tax burdens on property owners.
The body of Wilbert Gene Pitzer, 48, of Austin was found at Park Road 4 scenic loop rest stop. Justice of the Peace Francis Farquhar ruled an apparent death by own action. a .38 revolver was found near the body. Pitzer’s death occurred between 5 and 6 a.m. Thursday. his brother in Seguin and his wife, who died last November, were notified.
Burnet reports a second dog poisoned by strychnine in the 1000 block of North Oak Street in one week. Police Chief Jess Madden links the killings to bait laced with poison and warns of possible danger to children. The Texas Humane Society offers a $500 reward. neighbors say multiple pets have died or survived these attacks over two years.
Burnet officials study reshuffling positions as the new L-9000 Burroughs computer overheats and runs constantly. Debates include moving the machine across the aisle or relocating the City Police to the County Courthouse or Parks and Wildlife wardens office with sheriff and court approval needed. City Manager Tippit notes possible reciprocal financial arrangements with the county.
