Lewis r. Timberlake a native of Stamford will be the guest speaker at the banquet and 1977 chamber president Jerry Cozby will be officially inducted along with the other recently elected officers and directors. The outstanding citizen of 1977 and the outstanding chamber committee chairman will also be recognized at the ceremony. Tickets for the banquet can be purchased from the chamber of Commerce office at $7.50 per person. A committee of seven representatives of local clubs or organizations have been chosen to make the selection for the recipient of the outstanding citizen award. Pen Chat club president Charlotte Smith Kiwa Nis club president Hardy Whitfield rotary club president Alvin nored Lions club president Woody Hudman Epsilon i sorority member Mary Ann Benton and representatives from the Burnet Volunteer fire department and the chamber of Commerce will serve on the committee. Cozby will be installed a chamber of Commerce president Roy Murray will be formally installed As first vice president and Herman Braley As second vice president. James Herbort George Puckett Herman Braley and Charles Brinkley will be recognized As new directors for the chamber. Within seven years he became president of his company and during his first three years As president the company s sales Rose from $6 million per year to $72 million per year. Trustees to order school Board election Burnet Burnet school trustees will order the 1977 school Board election for april 2 when they meet for their regular monthly meeting at 7 30 . Tuesday tomorrow in the High school cafeteria the three year terms of trustees Sally Williams of Burnet and Gene Taylor of Bertram will expire on that Date. Taylor who has filled the unexpired term of Ken Warden since last april has indicated he will definitely run for reelection but Williams said she has not yet decided. The Board will open bids for construction of an inside curb on the High school running track a Broad jump runway High jump Takeoff and pole vault runway. Superintendent Robert Wilken said the Board will also consider bids on an outside curb for the running track to be built Quot if we have enough Lewis r. Timberlake one of Lewis s programs was selected by the . Navy recruiting command to be used to provide sales training for its 6,000 recruits. Marble Falls coach quits by Marty Primeau Marble Falls after accepting the resignation of athletic director and football Coah coach Johnny Kolacek at their meet thursday night the trustees the Marbie Falls school Board scheduled a special meeting 6 . Wednesday to Ravel w applications to fill the vacancy. Following the meeting Kolacek said he and his wife Gloria who also resigned her position As High school English teacher will remain in Marble Falls for the rest of the school year but they have Quot no definite plans yet for the Kolacek cited the Mustang s losing i and 9 season As the main reason he is resigning but said he will continue to coach football somewhere else. This is the time of year when there is a turnover of school coaches and i think there will be be even More this he added that several school districts in Texas Are recruiting coaches and he and his wife will look around before making a move. School Board president Jerry Edwards said the trustees Are recruiting a new athletic director and football coach and they will review applications in executive session at the special meeting this week. In other action the trustees voted to extend the contracts of the three school principals rejected a motion to hire a delinquent tax attorney and tabled action on hiring an auditor for 1976-77. In executive session the trustees decided to renew the contracts of principals Truett Mobley Kenneth Moore end Robert Shirley for two years. They also approved in $1,800 extra work Bonus for Mobley with trustee Al Zerm casting a negative vote. As High school principal Mobley has been receiving a $300 extra work Bonus and Hundley recommended that it be raised to $1 800 in keeping with amounts paid in other districts. Hardy Willis was appointed commissioner last monday to replace Jimmy Taylor who resigned the same Day Marble Falls City meeting postponed a of Marble Falls a special meeting of the Marble Falls City Council set for last thursday night to consider action on two petitions was postponed until later this week. The Council was to act on a petition calling for an election on the takeover of the Marble Falls water District As Wail at petition to Annex 40 acres property South of the City limit. City manager Dick Zimmerman said the meeting was postponed until he can talk to City attorney Richard Harris in san Antonio. About 85 Anonymous persons opposing the water Board takeover signed a petition for an election and Zimmerman said the Council can either drop the Issue or hold the election and he assumes the letter action will be taken Quot since we be taken it this the Council voted unanimously to abolish and absorb the Marble Falls water District at the dec. 14 meeting the aldermen will also take action on the annexation petition including a amp a and a amp a trailer Parks and a Section of Hays subdivision which was protested at last i a essay night s meeting by property owners the petition was submitted to die Board in late november by Cliff Bible and other residents of the area and a Public hearing was held in december. The Council delayed action on the petition until Zimmerman can compile estimates on the City takes which would be charged to the residents if the property is annexed. Junior High and elementary principals Are not due to the Large number of night time and weekend activities which he must supervise and direct including athletic events concerts banquets dances and other school relate activities Hundley said Zerm objected to the amount of the increase end suggested that the Bonus be raised to $500, but the motion died for Leek of a second. The High school principalship is the most difficult in Public education today and Mobley is an outstanding High school principal one of the finest with whom i have Ever worked Quot the trustees rejected a recommendation by Hundley to hire Gates Steen and associates of Austin As delinquent tax attorneys for the school District for a period from january 1977 to january 1979. In making his presentation to the Board Hundley said that Alta Shaeffer who was hired it tax assessor collector in september had asked that the firm not be hired until june because she Felt that she Cen collect a number of Back taxes in the six month period Shaeffer was appointed to the position in july to Complete the term of Leonard Storey when he resigned As tax assessor collector Hundley recommended that the firm be hired As soon As possible because of the Large backlog of delinquent taxes going Back several years at the dec. 6 meeting of the Board attorney Gates Steen explained his firm s operation and said they could raise the tax collection rate to Over 96 per cent for a fee of 15 per cent of All delinquent taxes collected. Quot i d like to see us continue with the old system and i think we ought to let our new tax assessor collector try to collect the delinquent taxes until at least june Quot Edwards said. Hie trustees voted not to hire Gates Steen and associates at this time hut agreed to review the tax collection situation in a few months Hundley Alco recommended that the Board hire Harold Simpson of Austin to conduct the 1976-77 school year audit instead of Belier and Davidson the auditing firm which hat audited the District for several years.
