Bulletin notes Burnet High School basketball teams host Llano with the girls poised to seal the district title and the boys holding a one game lead with three to play. It recalls a 70 to 62 girls win and reflects on quirky local weather and town quirks.
Recent memorials at Burnet Library honor Thomas White Eva M. Allen Buddy Wright Leo Black and others. Gifts come from families and friends including the Tom O Donnells James Mallory Raymond Price N C Wright B Pogue Mr and Mrs Patricia and others.
Weldon Buck will become Chief Deputy of Burnet County Sheriff's Department on February 15, with five full time and one part time deputies under him. Buck has a long law enforcement record including Llano County, Marble Falls, and Burnet City Police, and holds certificates in criminal investigation and radar operations. He and his wife Lillie have three sons in public service, and Buck notes the job offers varied cases and extended hours.
Sylvia Wharton reports Wesley Ray Gilbert, 24, and Thurston Lynn Brooks, 26, both of Marble Falls and Austin, were arrested after a pursuit involving four Burnet County deputies a Texas Parks and Wildlife vehicle and Marble Falls city marshal. They face felony burglary charges with $2500 bail each following a break in at a hunting cabin on Dr Raleigh R Ross ranch southeast of Burnet. The theft included groceries tools a large knife and a tool box. Deputy Shelburn and Danny Reid made the arrests Texas Ranger Troy Portersfield aided the ongoing investigation.
Five Burnet E elementary teachers joined the Austin Area Reading Conference at LBJ High School in Austin. Dr. Alvin Franowsky and Dr. S Alan Cohen spoke on diagnosing reading and teaching the disadvantaged, with tours of the LBJ Library and classroom exhibits.
The Burnet County Historical Society met January 28 at the Burnet Library to organize a 1975 membership drive led by Mrs. Pete Merchant and Mrs. Fritz Bruns. Dues are $1 per person and fund preservation. area residents are urged to join and take part in Bicentennial year programs and oral histories.
The Burnet County Fair and Rodeo Association signed a contract with Tommy Steiner of Austin to produce an RCA Rodeo in Burnet on May 15 and 17. Stars like Larry Mahan and Walt Garrison may perform. Sonny Woods Jr. heads fundraising for a concrete show barn floor addition.
The Burnet Chamber of Commerce announces ticket sales for its annual banquet on Thursday February 20. Tickets are $6 and available at First State Bank Hoover Builders or the Chamber office. Rookie Cowboys quarterback Clint Longley will headline. Banquet moves to Burnet Elementary Cafeteria. Dan Haynes chairs event.
Deburn Connie Wilson ends near three-decade tenure at Allbritton Oakley Dodson Drug in Burnet on January 31 1975. She began February 18 1948 and witnessed the move to Highway 29 while serving generations of customers with soda ice cream and coffee.
Burnet County Schools plan an April 5 election with no filed applications yet, superintendent Robert Wilkins says. Current board members Henry Blagg Wofford and others’ terms end. March 5 filing deadline approaches. City council elections also set for April 5 with no filings reported by City Secretary Grace Kincaid.
