Burnet County approves 1976 salary hike in regular session

In the December 22 meeting the Burnet County Commissioners Court raised regular employee wages by 50 per month and set hourly rates at a minimum of 2.50. Salaries for elected officials also increased by 50 per month. Bids on sheriff's cars were discussed and other business conducted. The County Agent and Home Demonstration Agent and secretary are noted as not paid by the county.

City Manager Seeks Profit From Treated Wastewater

Burnet city manager Jack Tippit proposes using the daily 300000 gallons of treated effluent for irrigating city land. He will ask the council to fund facilities if feasible and will consult US Soil and Water Conservation Service on sprinkler versus flood irrigation.

Burnet OKs $19,900 Burroughs computer purchase

City council holds a special meeting after a Christmas party and approves buying a Burroughs L-8900 computer for 19,900 dollars. Mayor Kassaw breaks a 2-2 tie in favor, with aldermen Fry and Cowan voting yes and Benton and Wilcox voting no. Sanders was absent and would not say how he would vote.

Mystery Shopper Final Burnet Winners Named

The final Burnet Mystery Shopper was identified at 11 18 a m Monday in Dilbeck's Department Store during the pre Christmas rush. Mrs Ben Fredrickson won more than 100 dollars in merchandise donated by local merchants. The shopper said Mrs Charles Brinkley was revealed by Brinkley’s ring and the clue picture in The Bulletin. The Burnet Chamber of Commerce organized the 31 merchant campaign Shop Burnet First to keep dollars local.

Marble Falls Man Dies After Gunshot Wound

Charles Leo Gibson, 66, of Marble Falls, died at 4 19 PM in Brackenridge Hospital Austin after being shot in the head near Marble Falls Cemetery. He was rushed from Burnet to Shepherd Memorial Hospital then transferred to Austin by ambulance where he suffered cardiac arrest en route. His wife survives.

Six Probation Sentences Handed Down After District Court Pleas

District Judge Jack B. Miller imposed probation on six defendants after recent pleadings in district court. Wesley Mattison and Donald Loughe received two year probation for burglary of a building, with restitution and costs due. Neil Portes, Ricky Gilbert, Salvadore Serrano, and Mary Lynn Blair were granted two year probation for burglary related offenses with specified payment deadlines. Marcos Sanchez entered a not guilty plea to DWI with a subsequent offense. trial set for Jan 19, 1975.
