Burnet Unaffected By Bell Rate Ruling

The Public Utility Commission ruled a fifth of Southwestern Bell Telephone Co’s $292.2 million rate hike will not affect Continental Telephone Co of Texas or Burnet County phone rates. City Manager Jack Tippitt said Continental’s request goes before the Commission around December 20 with a separate ruling to follow.

Trustees Hire Teacher Approve Briggs Lease

Burnet School Board met at length to hire a new English teacher Pat Seawell filling the vacancy, accept resignations from two teachers, sign the Briggs Civic Center lease, and review the district audit. Burnet County approves statewide pay raises for staff and officials

Burnet County commissioners approve retroactive salary boosts for all elected officials and regular full time employees, plus hourly and extension staff. Elected officials receive 75 dollars monthly or equivalent, full time workers 40 dollars monthly, hourly staff 25 cents per hour. Library salaries stay set by the Library Board. Paychecks issued before Christmas, with retroactive date to December 1.

Burnet Council Approves Repairs for City Airport

Burnet city council votes unanimously to suspend Lone Star Gas rate hike and to repair Burnet Municipal Airport strip as part of a master plan. The council approved $8,000 for airstrip repair, seeks a fixed base operator, and will evaluate a rate expert amid plans for expanded facilities.
