Midnight Chase Ends In Indictment

Burnet police apprehended 19 year old Roger Bernal after a Saturday pursuit ending in a scuffle near Court House Square. Bernal, charged with aggravated assault, faced indictment from a Burnet County grand jury. bail set at 3000 by Judge Jack Miller. Holland, the officer, sustained minor injuries from the botched arrest and gunfire. Bernal treated for a minor gunshot wound and jailed. arraignment scheduled for December 19.

Deputies Push Bids for Two Sheriff Cars at County Court

Chief Deputy Weldon Buck stayed with the Weld County Commissioners Monday as they agreed to start advertising for bids on two new sheriff cars. The move followed three months of consideration. The court also approved radio equipment purchases and a CAPCO order for two mobile radios and three walkie talkies, with the county covering 25 percent of an estimated 1250 dollars. Engineer Donald Sherman presented Horseshoe Bay South plat for 140 lots over 47.2 acres. County Clerk Wayne Barton confirmed compliance. The court approved filing the plat. Sherman also submitted Northwood Terrace plat within Marble Falls city limits with six lots over 8.6 acres, nearly five acres of drainage easement to the city. A resolution accepting State Highways and Public Transportation Commission provisions was approved. (Cant. on P. 6A)

After the Christman Parade, the Mystery Shopper in the Try Burnet First promotion was revealed. Louise McClung questioned a shopper who admitted being the Mystery Shopper Merkel Williams, who had shopped in every involved store. Prizes totaled about $100, with Williams receiving a table lamp and other merchants donating gifts.

Possums, Night Hunt Prompt Fines in Burnet Case

Ronnie Ear Ray and Clifton J. Compton both of Burnet must pay 52.50 in Justice Court for illegally hunting fur bearing animals from a public road at night in a closed season. They were caught about 2:00 a.m. on Shady Grove Road near Joppa by Texas Parks and Wildlife wardens Gary Turner and Bob Johnson.
