The easter dress costume contest will begin at 11 . On the courthouse Square with the easter egg Hunt following at noon in the Wallace Riddell Park. Sponsoring the costume contest is the Burnet chamber of Commerce retail Trade committee. Sponsors of the egg Hunt Are radio station Kalb the Burnet county bulletin Hoover building and Supply co., dil Heck s dept. Store first state Bank and Sonny s food Market. Grand prize in the costume contest is a stuffed easter Bunny. First second and third place winners we a receive an easter Basket. The egg Hunt will be divided into two categories for those seven years old and under and one for those eight and Over. Prizes include live easter bunnies and $50 in Cash. Easter is near Meg left and Laura right Kelly Are Reedy for the special occasion with Bright Gingham dresses and Flowers in their hair. Benton becomes new Burnet mayor Burnet Howard Benton was installed As Burnet s newest mayor tuesday during a special meeting of the City Council to Canvas the april 2 votes. Benton a native of Burnet county served on the Council for five years on place 3 before Bergman installed As new of school trustee Marble Falls mrs. Gay Bergman was sworn in As the first woman on the Marble Falls Independent school District Board of trustees monday night during a special dinner meeting. Toasting Spring and a new year for the school Board the first annual school Board dinner honouring trustees and special guests was prepared by the school administrative personnel and trustee wives. Following a canvass of the april 2 votes mrs. Bergman and returning trustee John Mead were administered the oath of office by Jerald Edwards president. After the oath taking Edwards was re elected to the office of president by the Board. Mead was elected vice president and Joe Dockery Secretary. Speaking to the Board superintendent Charles h. Hundley said Board members will Quot always be criticized because you Are in the Arena trying. Three things a Board member must remember is that you should be Active rather than reactive you must learn to live with criticism Quot and they should View the problems realistically. Tommy Shifflett and Chuck Waymer were also installed to the Board of equalization for 1977. Weldon Wilbanks and Dan Derrick alternate will also be serving on this Board during the coming year. The special meeting was held in the Marble Falls elementary school. The next scheduled meeting of the school Board will be april 11. Becoming mayor. During that time he served As mayor pro tem. Benton said monday Quot Burnet has a Good Council and some realistic programs underway. I think i can contribute As mayor and see these programs completed Quot Benton cited such projects As getting the Landfill in order working on the City s effluent discharge paving curbing and guttering projects and the Airport program. Quot the Council has All reasonable men who can disagree without being disagreeable he said. Quot we Don t want a rubber stamp organization Quot Benton also said he would like to see each councilman have a specific area of responsibility to study and make recommendations Back to the Council. Before she took the oath of office superintendent Charles Hundley stated that Board members will receive numerous suggestions and complaints. That mrs. Bergman knew before being told. It s really very easy to enter the contests a you have to do is tear out one of the contest entry drawings from the March 24 or March 31 edition of the Burnet county bulletin color it in Crayon or map colors and have your parents or guardian take it to the merchant who s name appears St the Bottom of the entry form. Each Winner will receive a prize from the participating merchant whose name appears on the entry. Rules for the contestants Are easy to follow. Children 12 years old or younger Are eligible to enter. Entries must be taken to the merchant whose name appears at the Bottom of the drawing. Each picture must be done in Crayon or map colors and must be signed by entrant with age address and your Parent s name and phone number. Winners will be notified by phone if possible by april 11th. Joy Taylor will be familiar with Many of its programs. has been attending the Board meetings representing the Parent to Acher association for three years now she said. Quot it will not be completely new but i will familiarize myself with the school system especially with budget hearing coming up soon Quot she said. Quot the Best Way to Start out is to be honest and stay that Way Quot she continued. Quot i think All the Board members Are accountable to the people and All Are honest people. Quot i want All the people to know i represent mrs. Taylor Defeated incumbent mrs. Sally Williams in the april 2 elections. R a y a Texas 75-33 t 3 i o a fins trans celebrate easter miss Burnet Beauty pageant scheduled for june 3 Burnet Pauline Berry chairman of the Public relations committee of the Burnet chamber of Commerce announced the chamber will conduct the miss Burnet Beauty pageant 7 30 pm Friday. June 3, at the High school auditorium this will be an Elimina Tion contest to enter three girls second runner up first runner up and miss Burnet in the miss Highland lakes Beauty pageant which is an official miss Texas universe pageant preliminary contest miss Texas universe competes in the miss Usa pageant to qualify contestants must be from the Burnet consolidated Independent school District. Contestants must never have been married and shall be not less than 17 years of age or More than 27 years of age on july 15, 1977. Contestants must be sponsored by an organization civic club or business sponsor s fat is $25 to help defray the Cost of the pageant. Anyone wishing to sponsor a contestant in this contest is urged to Contact the girl you wish to sponsor and encourage her to enter the contest or Call the chamber office and they will put an applicant in touch with you. Twice once in a one piece swimsuit of their Choice and in formal gown. Judging will be on Beauty of figure and face Charm poise and personality. There is no Talent required. Contestants must furnish their own swimsuit and gown. General admission to the pageant on june 3, will be $2 for adults and $1 for children under 12. Tickets will be on Sale at the door the night of the pageant. All girls who qualify Are encouraged to Stop by the chamber office and pick up an application. Of you done to have a sponsor we will help find one for you. Deadline for entry in the pageant is May 5, 1977. Throughout Burnet county and the Highland lakes area christians will be celebrating the resurrection of Christ in special easter services. A area churches will conduct regular services with some scheduling special events.
