District Track Meet Captures Mason City Interest
Mason City and Buffalo Center competed in the district track meet at Britt last Saturday. Costigan set conference records in hurdles and discus, winning multiple events including the 100 and 220 yard dashes and pole vault, while teammates Harkness Davis Lareen Thompson and others contributed strong showings. The squad finished runner up with high marks in the half mile relay and various field events as districts head toward the statewide meet.

Delegates Nominate Wet and Dry Slates at Forest City
At Forest City on Monday wets nominated Grover Campbell of Thompson for standard bearer and Chorwald Thorson of Forest City to head the dry cause. Each delegate swore to vote wet or dry if elected, with county results certified to state secretary who will place wets and drys on separate ballot columns. G R Smith pioneer Lakota merchant and father of Mrs G B Heitland shot himself Monday afternoon in the basement of his Lakota home. He had been in poor health, sought relief in travel to New Mexico and Arizona. Survived by wife son Raymond four daughters, four grandchildren, one sister four brothers and his aged mother. Funeral to be held today at Lakota Presbyterian church at 2 PM with Rev H A Kos sacl of Arlington Heights Chicago delivering the sermon.

Children’s Party at City Hall Draws Crowds
A crowd estimated at over two hundred gathered at City Hall Tuesday for a Children’s Party. Alvin Martin Kramer, 28, beloved son of Mr and Mrs O R Kramer, died at Park hospital Mason City last Thursday night May 4 from peritonitis after ulcer surgery. A Woden native who moved to Buffalo Center in 1919, he was a 1923 high school graduate with many longtime friends. Funeral held at Congregational church with Rev A Lang and Rev Byron Wiright officiating. pallbearers included schoolmates Lyle Johnson Bill Hanson Irvit Wessels John Finlayson Arthur Oson and George Carman.
