Armstrongs named Grand Marshals of 2016 Firecracker Days parade
Buffalo Center Mayor Troy Armstrong and his wife Sue are chosen as Grand Marshals for the 2016 Bison Firecracker Days Parade on July 4. Troy, mayor since 2010, and Sue, both involved with the local ambulance service, have deep ties to Buffalo Center and nearby towns. Their son Spencer is a North Iowa High School senior. The parade begins at 1 p.m. and a parade-route map appears elsewhere in the edition.

Summer Reading Program kicks off at Blank Park Zoo
The Buffalo Center Public Library hosted the first afternoon of its Summer Reading Program on Friday June 24 drawing over 50 children with parents and grandparents. Samantha Dunn brought four live animals from Blank Park Zoo Des Moines for close animal encounters. The program continues July 1 with Buns and Tails by Kylie Buns from 2 to 3 p.m. July 8 features Audrey Lewis from North Iowa Physical Therapy promoting healthy eating and exercise.

City to take street project bids in July
Buffalo Center will seek bids for this year’s street project with a tentative deadline of July 20. WHKS engineer Chase Holten outlined work on 4th Ave NW and Main St, noting a July 20 bid deadline after a law change from July. The new rule requires 13 days notice before bids and allows online notices, with work expected August through October and a 60/40 cost split between city and homeowners, who may pay in full in 30 days or over 10 years with interest.

July 20 marks the final deadline for family biographies and business listings for the Buffalo Center Quasquicentennial book, a follow up to the 1992 Centennial edition. Flyers were mailed, with drop offs at the Buffalo Center Tribune office or mailed to BC Quasqui Book, PO Box 376.

Bison Firecracker Days kicks off with 5K Glow Run
The Buffalo Center event starts Thursday June 30 with a 5K Glow Run Walk registration at 8:30 p.m. and race at 9:15 p.m. North Iowa Betterment sponsors a four day holiday celebration featuring games, a human foosball tournament, street dance July 2, ambulance brunch July 3, and a large parade July 4 followed by Lions Park activities at 2 p.m.
