12th Annual Rake Tractor Ride Saturday

The 12th Annual Rake Tractor Ride is scheduled for Saturday June 25 with breakfast at the Rake Fire Station from 6 30 to 9 a m freewill donation open to the public. The ride starts at 9 a m and ends at 4 30 p m. driver application is 35 dollars includes noon and evening meal. Titonka Indian Days Weekend Schedule Highlights

Titonka Indian Days runs Friday to Sunday with events listed elsewhere in this edition. Buffalo Center Public Library hosts Blank Park Zoo on Friday at 2 p.m. Go Team theme features live animals for preschool through sixth graders. Lakota Road Runners host Wednesday Bike Classic Car Night offering wings and a chance to win a free pizza.

Thompson First Responders press on amid dwindling EMT numbers

Thompson First Responders will continue to serve during health emergencies as Forest City Ambulance handles transport. With six new members this year but none EMT certified, the group will operate as first responders only, leaving transport to neighboring services in Thompson and surrounding areas.

Winnebago County Relay for Life Paints World Purple

The 2016 Winnebago County Relay for Life at Forest City courthouse square on Saturday June 25 runs 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. with 21 teams including virtual contributors to American Cancer Society. Events include a dunk tank, 3 on 3 basketball, Lake Mills performers, opening at 4 p.m., survivors at 6 15 p.m., luminaria at 8 30 p.m., 5K Glow Run/Walk at 9 p.m. and fireworks finale at 10 p.m.

Bison Firecracker Days planned in Buffalo Center festivities

A four day Fourth of July celebration begins June 30 with a 5K Glow Run Walk. Registration at 8:30 p.m. at the NIB office. Events include a street dance July 2 with DJ Silk and G B Leighton Band, a brunch July 3 by the Ambulance Crew, and a July 4 parade at 1 p.m. in Lion's Park with games, human foosball, music, cornhole, a pie auction, and fireworks. Little Bison Seeks to Buy Its Childcare Building

After 13 years in business Little Bison Childcare Center plans to purchase its building from Buffalo Center Development Corporation. The facility on the northwest corner of 2nd St NW in Buffalo Center is at full capacity with 76 children. A USDA loan is sought to fund the purchase and a public information meeting is scheduled for Monday June 27 at 6 p.m. at the center.

City Tightens Rules on Dangerous Dog Breeds

Buffalo Center City Council amended the dangerous animal ordinance to address mixed breed dogs. Owners can refute prohibited breed claims with DNA testing from a licensed veterinarian. any dog with more than 10 percent of prohibited breeds will be banned. The ordinance takes effect after publication June 22 following a first reading and waivers.
