Missed Turn Near Alton Leads to Embankment Crash
A Minnesota driver Rev Elmer Schwarz failed to take an overhead turn on highway 33 north of Alton. He continued 250 feet then turned and plunged over an embankment. He was not seriously injured. Rex of Leon died after a 2x6 board from his Decatur county sawmill struck him. Wayne Butler a 19 year old Ames filling station attendant was suspected of robbery with embezzlement after a sheriff noted no injuries. Ames dog show entrants Orville Madsen and Brick Tier each entered dogs. Madsen won a first and second while Tier’s dog took four firsts. H G Addie of Cresco completed 50 years with Northern Iowa Telephone. A barn near Decorah was built in ten hours on the Robert Espe farm. Guthrie Center saw three boys, ages 14, 14, and 12, charged with burglaries. Edward Cooper, 16, was burned while patching a life raft.
