Mo- Woden airliner downed in storm north of town

A Mo-At aewave Inc. plane from Mason City forced down on Alfred Wingen farm north of Woden amid a Saturday storm. It landed in an oats field, tipped onto its back, one wing damaged, pilot uninjured. Sheriff guarded the wreck until dismantled and hauled to Mason City. Other items note a June marriage license and local traffic mishap, plus immunization clinic, new car registrations, and homestead exemption filings.

Schroeder Schmidt Nuptials at Lakota First Presbyterian Church

Lola Schroeder daughter of Mr and Mrs W M Schroeder Lakota and Forrest Schmidt son of Mr and Mrs O G Schmidt Buffalo Center were married at 8 am Sunday June 18 at Lakota First Presbyterian Church with Rev E H Buschman officiating. The altar had orange blossoms peonies and roses. Dorothy Schroeder was maid of honor. Jack DeVries attended the groom. The couple left for a two week honeymoon in Colorado Springs and will reside in Buffalo Center after August 31 where the groom works with his father.

West to Billings and Custer Field Route Home

Mr and Mrs Gus Kiekel returned today from Phoenix Arizona after a four month stay. En route they toured Boulder Dam Salt Lake City Cairo West Yellowstone Bozeman Billings Custer field Rapid City and home covering over 6000 miles. They noted much building in the west, warmer climate turning cold with snow in Idaho and high mice numbers during travel.

Virginia Gilbert Selected for Girls State at Grinnell

Miss Virginia Gilbert and Janice Peterson were chosen to attend Girls State at Grinnell from July 23 to 30. The program, sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, mirrors Boys State and selects top scholastic and extracurricular students from the community and Forest City.

Smith Nefzger Marriage Vows in Minnesota

Beverly Ardelle Smith and Robert LeRoy Nefzger exchanged vows on Saturday June 21 at Olivet Methodist Church Minneapolis. Rev. Upton E. Dahle officiated before relatives and friends. After the ceremony a dinner was held at Curtis Hotel Lotus Room. They plan to reside in Spencer after a wedding trip to northern Minnesota and Canada.

Funeral Services For Mrs Gus Raake Held Thursday

Funeral services for Elsie Miller Raake were held at her home and the Methodist church with Rev. Elmer R. Peterson in charge. Interment was in Olena Mound cemetery. Born July 12, 1873 in Germany, she died June 28, 1947 at age 73 11. She married Gustav Raake on December 23, 1894. Survived by four children Augusta Chambers Brule Wisconsin William G Raake Washington DC Ada Gaede Eldora Iowa Esther Fox Kansas City Missouri two sisters one brother four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Swimming Pool Popular Spot for Buffalo Center Youth

The Buffalo Center tourist park pool draws many young locals. Miss Barbara Lou Slaba, recently certified as Red Cross lifeguard, teaches swimming and serves as lifeguard. Hours are 1 30 to 5 00 Monday Tuesday Friday. 1 30 to 5 30 Wednesday Thursday Saturday Sunday. evenings 7 30 to 10 00 Monday Tuesday Friday. Dedication of Soundcaster System at First Reformed Church

The First Reformed Church Sunday service at 10:30 AM will dedicate the newly installed Soundcaster System and Tower music system donated by the congregation and donor family. Jack Russell of Humboldt installed the equipment, and the church hopes sacred music will extend the Christian message and invite community members to attend services.

Gas Transport Fire Near Lighthouse Station

Clear Lake volunteer firefighters were called at 3 a m Thursday to douse a blaze in the cab of Guy Wessels gas transport truck parked near the lighthouse station on West Division Street. The cab was largely destroyed with no explosion due to an empty tank. Origin of the fire remains unknown.

Alvin Hofbauer Injures Right Leg In Hay Baler

Alvin Hofbauer son of Mr and Mrs Henry Hofbauer is in Park hospital Mason City with injuries to his right leg. He was helping uncle George Hofbauer bale hay on Tuesday July 1 when his leg was drawn into the baler up to the knee. The engine was reversed and he was freed by his uncle. He was taken to Dalmage hospital for first aid and then to Park hospital where doctors say he suffered two broken bones in his foot and injuries to his leg. The accident occurred about 5 30 p m.

Grant Farm Bureau Hosts Grant 4-H Program Evening

The Grant Township Farm Bureau met in Buffalo Center City Hall on Thursday evening June 26. President Glyn Johnson steered a program featuring Grant 4-H clubs with songs, skits, and reports on district camps at Clear Lake. Delegates Ramona Aukes Jo Ann Boyken and Lester Schmidt spoke.
