Floyd Winter Heads to National Scout Jamboree Voyage

Floyd Winter of the Winnebago Council sails through a busy itinerary from Camp Roosevelt near Ventura to Mason City and Chicago before reaching Valley Forge. The 47 000 scouts from all 48 states and 14 foreign countries will gather for the jamboree officially opened by President Truman.

PMA Asks Farmers About Corn Deliveries and Storage

PMA mailed letters to all Winnebago County farmers holding sealed corn asking if they will deliver this fall and where. Deliveries begin August 1 and storage space across the county is being arranged. Rates include sealing and multi year storage, with resealing and loan program extensions through 1951.

Three League Games Played by Softballers

The Soft Ball League shows steady play sharpening bats as Honken’s Aylis-Chalmers beat Jensvold’s THC 6 1 with Honken and Roy pitching well. Fredericks-Johnson’s All-Stars upset the Farmers 5 4 aided by an error and Dontje wild pitch before Albers and Letcher homers sparked an 8 6 10 inning win. All-Stars next face Garner under lights with Johnny Holman slated to start at 8 15 pm.

Youth For Christ Rally in Forest City June 24

The Forest City Civic Auditorium hosts a Northern Iowa Youth for Christ meeting on Saturday evening June 24. Doors open at 7 30 p m. Rev Clarence Walstad, president of the Lutheran Brethren Church of America and Sudan mission returnee, is principal speaker. The 18 piece Bethel String Band from Joice also performs. Public invited. Mr and Mrs Roy Morgan and Marian visit Ohio relatives in Cleveland.

First Band Concert Postponed To Saturday Night

Rain soaked the scheduled first summer band concert and postponed it to Saturday night June 24 at 8:00 PM under conductor Duane Veach. The band will also march in the Rake parade and perform in the afternoon plus a rehearsal at the school house Thursday June 22 at 8:00 PM. Junior Band members meet Thursday at 2:00 PM.

State Brand Creameries of Mason City honors top buttermakers from 130 Iowa creameries. Helmer Hovland led the six week efficiency ranking with 97.00 points, among four Master Craftsmen named, including Charles Weir, T. M. Bendickson, and Norbert Huizel. Past Matrons Meet of the Eastern Star Club

Members of the Past Matrons' Club of the Order of the Eastern Star met on Thursday June 15 with Mrs Emma Jones presiding over devotions. Ten members answered roll call. After the business meeting a social hour followed. refreshments were provided by the hostess. The group adjourned for the summer and will resume in September with Mrs Carl Christensen.

County Conventions Set for Forest City June 30

Republican and Democratic county conventions are scheduled for June 30 in Forest City with sessions at 10 a.m. in the courthouse and Civic Auditorium. Delegates from Buffalo, Grant and Lincoln townships are named, plus the party leaders to select state convention delegates and a state treasurer candidate. The Lake Mills Legion and Auxiliary host an evening meeting June 27 at 8 p.m. in the Lake Mills High School Auditorium featuring Congressman James L. Liver and honoring county posts and units.

Summer Playground Program Underway By Business Men's Club

The summer playground program under Eddie Langhus is now operating for school age children. Daily meetings at the city park start at 10 a.m. with baseball and handicrafts on Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays, and tennis and tumbling on Tuesdays Thursdays and Saturdays. Younger children cannot be accommodated.

Wheat Allotments Open for 1951 in Winnebago County

Archie E. Anderson, chairman of the Winnebago County PMA, announced that farms with no wheat planted for harvest in 1948 1949 or 1950 may apply for 1951 wheat acreage allotments. Applications for new farms must be in writing to the County PMA by July 1 1950 and prove land suitability for wheat and that the operator relies largely on farming for livelihood.

Phoebe Circle Hosts Meeting With June Basket Project

The Phoebe Circle of Bethlehem Lutheran Church met with Miss Clara Olson as hostess. Fourteen members and guests attended. Rev. Holleque led devotions. Mrs Irwin Wessels, president of the Ladies Aid, shared information of interest. The circle sponsors a traveling basket for their June project. Next meeting is Monday, July 10 with Mrs Harm Huisman.

Lola Smith Best Guesser Wins Shoes at Ice Block Event

Winter's Clothing Store staged a public guessing contest with a frozen work shoe embedded in a 300 pound ice block. About hundreds submitted guesses. Lola Smith predicted 35 hours 12 minutes 35 seconds, winning Wolverine work shoes. George Beaving was near miss with 35 hours 0 minutes 20 seconds.
