Congregation Honors New Pastor and Wife Maberry

The Methodist Church welcomed Rev. and Mrs. Alvin T. Maberry with a Monday reception attended by more than a hundred friends. The event featured a living room stage set, remarks by J. E. Smith and Harm Shortenhaus, a presented purse, and musical performances. Also noted are free band instrument lessons in City Hall and a band practice schedule, with birthday greetings to Mrs. J. B. Jensen from relatives and friends including Hanson, Brekke, and Peterson families.

Rally Day Highlights Winnebago 4-H program at Thompson High

At Thompson High School gymnasium on June 5, 92 people attended the Winnebago County Rally Day highlighting 4-H activities. Officers elected include President Bessie Finer, Vice President Ione Liverca, Secretary-Treasurer Phyllis Goranson, and Historian Charlotte Doyle. Delegates were chosen for the Iowa State College convention in June.

4-H Club Girls Headed to State Convention

Eight Winnebago County 4-H girls will travel to Ames for the fifteenth annual 4-H girls state convention at Iowa State College. Delegates include Pearl Frerichs, Grace Kilen, Bonnie Helvick, Betty Aykes, Thelma Frandle, Charlotte Dole, and others with special delegates Bessie Finer and Tone Livercn. Chaperon Mrs. A. d. Olson and leaders will accompany. Pearl Frerichs to sing in chorus. Grace Eilen and Thelma Frandle to act as ushers. The event features pre convention training and expanded panel discussions with diverse youth reps. international guests Mercedes and Blanca Fuenv Mayer from Venezuela. speakers include Gert rude Warren, Raymond Sayre, Dr. Liu Liang Mo, and Dr. Russell M. Wilder.

Buffalo Center Band to Play at North Iowa Band Festival

The Buffalo Center band will participate in the seventh North Iowa Band Festival at Mason City on Tuesday June 16. They will march in the parade perform with massed bands at night and give a 10:30 am marching demonstration. Miss Helen Smith is Buffalo Center's candidate for Miss North Iowa and will ride ahead of her band in the parade at 11 am. Other festival highlights include day concerts in Central Park and an evening finale at Roosevelt field featuring the Decorah Junior Drum and Bugle Corps Patton Apgar and the Northwood pageant Uncle Sam in Review.

Program to Control Inflation Held at Thompson

A Thompson High School meeting explained the national program to control inflation and its impact on Winnebago citizens. Speakers noted wartime inflation risks, outlined training for co operators, and urged family council action to combat rising prices. Community notices include pool opening, births, and various hospital admissions and dismissals in the Thompson area.
