Saturday Night Bucks Drawing Invites Non Subscribers

The Buffalo Center Tribune invites non subscribers in Buffalo Center area to submit coupons via participating merchants for the Saturday Night Bucks drawings. Names go into the Bucs barrel and a first summer drawing is set for 9 00 p m Saturday June 10 with either spouse able to claim if the other is drawn.

Gold Pins Awarded to Two Graduating Seniors

Mary Costigan and Bruce Edwards, both graduating seniors, earned the Gold Pin for a 750 point four year total across scholastic and musical endeavors. Costigan led in vocal music and band and will enter nurses training, while Edwards, president of the FFA Bison Chapter, spoke at Commencement and plans to attend the University of Iowa.

Capitol News Letter Session Nearing End After Long Budget Debate

Town legislators return after a brief Memorial Day break and head into a busy homestretch. The 62nd General Assembly may not adjourn until late June as lawmakers tackle spiraling property taxes projected to reach 2.5 billion by 1975 if spending continues. The House backs more direct aid to schools while the Senate weighs personal property tax relief, likely requiring tax increases against a projected 84 million dollar state surplus for the year. First Camp-Out Of The Year For Buffalo Center Scouts

Members of Boy Scout Troop 45 of Buffalo Center and Scoutmaster Dave Benson camped at the Grant Township Wildlife Area last Saturday for their first overnight trip of the year. Twenty-four scouts appear in a group photo, with Craig Aykes absent. Thanks are given to Leon Heiman, Dean Pilgrim, Helman, Marvin Heyes, and local residents for transportation and wells access. The report also recalls past Tribune items from 1937 to 1907 about graduates, wages, and local visits.

On Sunday Rollin Wempen and David Grimes will travel with Mr. and Mrs. Ray Murray to Camp Dodge for the annual Boys State program run by the American Legion of Iowa. Also new barber Harry Boyken arrives in Leibrand family relocates.

Local Post Office Hires Temporary Clerk at Buffalo Center

Memorial Day marked the start of Huxley Heitland’s duties as temporary postal clerk at the Buffalo Center post office. He succeeds Eva Rank who resigned after more than five years in the role. Construction began last week on a new brick and block post office building on Main Street beside Costigan Motor Company. Ray Condor plans to move his barber shop nearby.
