James Lande of Buffalo Center, son of Mr and Mrs John Lande, is chosen as the Iowa State University political science student to join a national eight week summer internship in Washington DC. He will work under Dr John M Lumley in the Pipecoeducation Association office, with three peers from other Iowa colleges in roles with the National Coal Policy Conference and the American Bankers Association. A Pipestone Minnesota truck driver was fined 23.00 and costs in KKHL Eliman's Justice of the Peace court on improper passing charges. Memorial Day Crowd Thinned By Weather
Memorial Day observances in Iowa were trimmed by cold damp wind with marchers from City Hall to the schoolhouse around 2:00 pm. Funeral services for Carl William Smith 19 son of Mr and Mrs James Smith of Forest City were held Wednesday afternoon May 31 at 2 00 p m at the Methodist Church Forest City. Smith was killed early Saturday morning in a motorcycle accident on Highway 69 in Forest City. Interment was in Oakland Cemetery at Forest City.
