Governor's Volunteer Award winner Rod Hansen named
Rod Hansen of Buffalo Center is one of Iowa’s 2012 Governor’s Volunteer Award recipients announced by Governor Terry Branstad’s office. Nominated by Buffalo Center, Hansen will receive the honor June 13 at 3:00 p.m. in Anderson Auditorium on the Buena Vista campus in Storm Lake. the ceremony is open to the public. Hansen helped design and oversee the Heritage Town Center building project in Buffalo Center.

Buffalo Center works on warning siren upgrade project
Buffalo Center Fire Department and Volunteer Ambulance Corps plan a $30,000 project to install two new outdoor warning sirens replacing the 1969 system. The city council backed the effort at a May 23 meeting with funding aided by BCVED, county dispatch, and fundraising events on July 8.

Bidne retires after a 39 year North Iowa teaching career
Joan Bidne ends 39 years in classrooms over Thompson and North Iowa School District, focusing on middle school reading and language arts. She started the TAG program, taught all ages except kindergarten, and plans to read more, travel with her husband, and visit family after leaving teaching to farm duties. She left school due to a wisdom tooth infection and PICC line recovery.
