Way Back When 1947 to 1897 Local Highlights
A May to June retrospective notes a 1947 inflator accident in which Ron Yahnke lost a finger amid a truck tire blast and a fatal 1947 mine-like ditch cave-in near Bancroft. It recounts 1937 legion officers, a new band uniform, and a long-running poetry feature. Earlier eras mark medical awards in Iowa City, a Des Moines truck case, 1907 scenic work, and 1897 Buffalo Center ball victory with 17 strikeouts.
