Rally Day Elevates 4-H Girls at Thompson High School
Nearly 200 Winnebago County 4-H members, leaders, and friends gathered at Thompson High School on June 1 for Rally Day. Officers were elected, competitions held for Best Groomed Girls, and health talks given by County Public Health Nurse Mrs. Bernice Wilkins. Special music from Grant Gleaners and Newton Neighbors 4-H clubs closed the program.

Miss Bernice Behrends married Robert D. Davidson of Osage in a 3:00 pm June 8 1957 double ring ceremony at First Reformed Church Buffalo Center. The couple, both with local roots, will honeymoon in Northern Minnesota and Iowa City, with a reception for 175 guests.

Last Rites Held for William Myers
Funeral services were held at Winter Funeral Home with Rev. John Engels for William Myers whose body came from Des Moines for burial at Graceland Cemetery on May 31. Pallbearers included Henry Finer Bernard Phelps Peter DeVries Robert DeVries Sr Chas Hobbs and John Smith. Born March 2 1880 in Kansas he grew up near Lawn Hill Hardin County Iowa. He married Kate Patterson in 1900 who died months later. He lived mostly in Des Moines where he died May 29 1957 at age 77. Survived by sisters Minnie Sperring Eldora and Faye Kerdus Cedar Falls. preceded by parents two brothers Clinton Bert and sister Nellie Shacifer.

Mr and Mrs John Winter returned Sunday from a four train and car trip to the Pacific Coast. They left May 27 and stayed in Perry with Merle and Mildred Kauffman before taking the Milwaukee train to San Francisco. A boat to Oakland followed then a bus to Monterey where they met daughter Mrs Paul Kellogg whose husband is with the armed forces in Japan. They visited Monterey and nearby areas including Palo Alto and the Bay Bridges. Weather was fine throughout the trip.

West tour draws travelers home by train and car
In a brief society note from the region, travelers recount their return journeys from the west. From Oakland they rode by train to Perry and then drove home. En route, they met Mrs Hermie Weaver of Buffalo Center and Mrs Herman Jutting of Lakota, who also had been west. Jean Beaving departed Tuesday for Boulder Colorado for a six week summer course at the college there. Mr and Mrs Oscar Johnson drove to Minneapolis and St Paul early Sunday and returned late Monday after visiting relatives and handling some business.
