Lakota merchants and professionals announce a Saturday December 21 prize drawing at 3:00 pm with at least 65 prizes. Registration starts Friday December 13, and participation requires present attendance to win. Numerous local businesses donate turkeys hams gift certificates and other items to support the community Christmas event.
Monday to Friday lists meals for December 16 to 20. Each day offers a main dish, sides, dessert, and milk, with items like hamburgers, baked beans, chicken, grilled cheese, and tuna sandwiches. Includes vegetables, fruits, and dairy across the week.

Mr and Mrs Glenn M Ren shaw announce the engagement of their daughter Suzanne Marie to Charold C Barrett son of Mr and Mrs Virgil A Barrett Lakota. Suzanne Marie graduates San Clemente High School and attended Fullerton Junior College. Charold Barrett is a Lakota High School graduate and Luther College Decorah Iowa, teaching and coaching boys basketball in Baxter Iowa. Wedding planned for December 28.
The Lakota American Legion Auxiliary met at Mrs. Jerry Heetland’s home on December 2 for its annual Christmas potluck. Ten members and one guest attended. Gifts were sent to the Marshalltown Soldiers Home. President Greta Stecker received a gift, and she shared pictures from Hawaii. Christmas recordings were played. Each member will supply three dozen homemade cookies for the Woodward State Hospital. The next meeting will be hosted by Mrs. Mary Zoller. Also noted is the baptism of Shane Thomas Becker, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Becker, at Sacred Heart Church in Ledyard. Sponsors were Mr. Albert Becker and Tressie Marlow of Lone Rock. Dinner guests included several local families. Recent visitors at the Frank Neumann home included Mr. and Mrs. Neil Elwood of Thompson.
Lakota High School prepares for a Friday homecoming versus Titonka with queen candidates Glenda Hertzke Jan Meurer and Pat Lewis and king candidates Jerry Clayton Bruce Hertzke and Ross Larson. Ceremonies include clash day snake dance and a postgame dance and lunch.
Mr and Mrs Phil Schroeder and children Kim and Jeff of Indianapolis Indiana were Thanksgiving visitors at the parental Melvin Schroeder and Henry Clarken homes.

Thanksgiving guests listed from local families amid travel updates.
Health for all urges smoking cessation during Christmas Seals drive. One million quit, one third succeed, while doctors, teens, and U.S. figures show declines in smoking. Local note: Mr and Mrs Robert Lewis of Knoxville visited relatives in Utah.
