Concession Men Plead Guilty to Assault in Buffalo Center
The State of Iowa charged A. P. and Norman Nemmers of Bancroft with a felony and an attempted great bodily harm using a deadly weapon. They pled guilty to assault, paid a $50 fine plus costs, and had their truck and concessions returned. Hospital costs for Wm. Smith and town liability were settled. VFW and American Legion were absolved of blame.

Captain Lawrence Kreeze Receives Army Duty Orders
Captain Lawrence Kreeze is ordered to report for duty with a Captain's commission in the Air Transport Command by August fifth at Fort Warren Wyoming. A reserve called to active service, he previously served in Coast Artillery in Alaska, ending as a First Lieutenant. He now resides locally with his family, who are finishing a home he is building and runs a dragline and dirt moving outfit.

Belmond Man Bound To Grand Jury
Clair R B Nelson of Belmond was picked up after driving a semi into a ditch near Forest City skat ing rink. He pleaded not guilty to operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and was bound over to the grand jury with a $1500 bond. It was his third drunken driving offense. State attorney Nels Branstad and defense lawyers C W Templeton and Frank W Senneff represented the parties.
Selective Service Board to Meet in Forest City
The Winnebago County Selective Service Board will meet at 8:00 p.m. on August 17 in Forest City to hear appeals from those recently classified J A. Iowa's induction call rises to about 860 for September and near 1,000 for October, with heavy pre induction examinations in late Aug or Sept. Current classifications are LA for available for service JI and Jl for deferral due to occupational status or dependency V for by law or unfit W for over age.

Band to Close Concert Season Saturday

Night Softball Opens Under Illumined Field Crowd Gives $75
A large crowd attended the opening night under new field lighting as five softball teams and civic volunteers powered up the field on Tuesday. The Farm er's Coop Elevator beat the Fredericks-Johnson All-Stars 14 to 7 in the first game, with Risius pitching for the winners. In the second, VFW Warriors beat Jensyold's nine 4 to 2 led by Fel dick and Swartz. Mayor De Vries tossed the first ball and the crowd helped raise about 75 dollars for the lighting fund.

The Legion Pee Wees defeated Bancroft 11 to 8 on Thursday afternoon. Bancroft started strong with three runs in each of the first two innings, but the local team answered with seven in the second, never relinquishing the lead.
