In Brazos county during August, 29 80 B.A.I. men worked on fever tick eradication, with about 829 dollars spent. 433 herds and 9,201 cattle were inspected or dipped. none infested. Four herds and 16 cattle await further treatment. no quarantines, convictions, dismissals, or court costs occurred. The Texas Livestock Sanitary Commission will maintain efforts until all fever ticks are removed. Supervising this work was R. E. Smith of Nava sota, Texas.
Brazos county treasurer reports two thousand six dollars recovered over the past year through voluntary debt adjustments aided by the Resettlement Administration. Adjustments helped 32 farmers prevent foreclosures on six thousand sixty four acres and other property. debts totaling ninety six thousand four hundred twenty five dollars were reduced by twenty seven thousand two hundred thirty three. committee members include N N Snapp M W Sims Guy Harris and J M Moore with loans for tools and supplies possible in adjusted cases.
The United States Civil Service announces examinations for assistant messenger and junior messenger in the soil conservation service at College Station. Applications must be filed with the Tenth U.S. Civil Service District in New Orleans by Oct 9, 1936. Applicants should see N. L. McCullough at College Station on Wednesday.
Brazos Valley Cotton Cooperative manager Tom Field, of Calvert, reported his blue 1936 Dodge coupe stolen Wednesday noon from beside the Howell building at 27th and Main. License 114 327. A non-suspect was seen lingering near the vehicle. police notified.
South Texas district secretaries and managers from the eastern half of the East Texas Chamber of Commerce discussed social security in a round table at the Bryan office. Hubert Harrison chaired. 15 attendees from the group attended a Lions Club lunch. a Navasota beef cattle field day on October 9 was announced.
A Thursday evening reception at Travis school hosted by the Parent-Teacher Association honored the teachers. Notables in the receiving line included PTA president Mrs. C Goldsmith and principal Sam Crenshaw, with refreshments served by seventh grade girls.

A Brazos county canning contest awarded $30 in prizes to seven club women and 4-H girls. Mrs Alma Metcalfe received the prize check from Ball Brothers Company of Muncie Indiana. Adults earned $20 and girls $10 with top winners including Mrs Sam B Pate Mrs Aubrey Tobias Miss Bessie Crenshaw and Mrs Joe Banjo for women and Dorothy Sramek Miss Ethel Minnie Mills and Miss Helen Pate for girls.

Miss Pearl Bush was elected president of the Kings Highway 4 H girls club at Tuesday evening’s meeting in front of over 25 attendees. Also named were Miss Tillie Mae Nash as vice president and Miss Lelia Anne Cross as secretary treasurer, with Miss Bush to serve as reporter.
