Edinburg Grows Fine Porto Rico Yams in Bryan

C C Edinburg, a local farmer, brought a bucket of Porto Rico yams to the Eagle office. Eight potatoes grew on one hill with one weighing three pounds. Report says these are the best potatoes seen in Bryan this season.

Major L L McInnis of the First National Bank attended the opening of A and M College for the forty ninth time in the college's fifty one years. He served the college as professor and later chaired the board, likening loyalty to patriotism as he addressed the student body at the event.

Bryan Boy Receives Medal for Saving Friend

H. G. Stallings Jr of Bryan received a Ralston Purina Hero Commission gold medal at the Methodist Sunday School for saving 9 year old Hugh Thurman from a cess pool on January 25, 1926. Judge Oak McKenzie compared Stallings to Sam Davis and praised his courage and presence of mind.

Smetana Club Meet Sees Officials Named and Plans Set

County Agent C L Beason and Home Demonstration Agent Miss Abbie Sevier attended the Smetana club meeting Thursday night. Group leaders were named for crops James Seigert live stock Charles Wehrman poultry Bettie Holik garden and home improvement Alice Merka food preparation Mary Merka clothing Pansy Sousares. Each leader will report monthly to the club secretary who will compile reports for the County Agent and Home Demonstration Agent. The secretary and president form a county council meeting monthly with officials to discuss club welfare and problems countywide. Shirock has already acted in the matter.

The Educational Exhibit of the Texas Farm Bureau Cotton Association will be on display at the Tabor Community Fair Thursday. It is a striking display previously shown in Guion Hall at A and M during the Farmers' Short Course and may appear at Howell Lumber Company Second Agricultural Fair later.

Shirock community members held a meeting to decide on a community exhibit for the Howell Lumber Company fair next Saturday. Plans call for gathering materials at the schoolhouse Wednesday and Thursday and transporting them to Bryan on Friday.

Pringle of Texas Farm Bureau to Visit Brazos County

G A Pringle will tour Brazos and Burleson counties this week in charge of South Texas Farm Bureau Cotton Association work. He will arrive in Bryan Tuesday afternoon and be aided by the local Farm Bureau representative. Pringle, based in Marlin, is well known across the region.

Methodist Women Meet In Groups At First Church

The Woman's Missionary Society of the First Methodist Church held group meetings Monday afternoon. Group 1, led by Mrs. Neeley, discussed James chapter one and planned banquets and a Zone meeting. Services for John D Daly Held at 9 30 This Morning

Funeral services for John D Daly were held at Saint Joseph's Church at 9 30 this morning following his death at the family home on East 24th Street. The service was led by Reverends Brain and Litnora with interment in Bryan City Cemetery. Daly, born January 8 1884 in Bryan, resided in Galveston as Income Tax Collector the past five years. He left a widow Theresa Elbert and three sons John D Daly Jr Elbert and Douglas. He is also survived by a brother and two sisters. Pallbearers included Joe Howard I E Warren and others. City Rejects Private Financing Offer for White Way

M. F. Dansby proposed to fund the White Way along Bryan Avenue with city reimbursement on January 1. City Commission rejected the offer after thorough discussion due to labor concerns.

City Commission Advances Public Works and Leases

The commission noted a shortage and that money would be unnecessary as equipment would not arrive before December 1. They favored erecting a white way soon and immediate plumbing for the school. Blocks 10 and 11 in City cemetery were authorized, and the lease transfer of the opera house to Texas Amusement Company led by C A Schulman and Morris Schulman was approved. The city books main report was accepted and the bill ordered. All members attended as codifications of ordinances began.
