Abe Cox, an African American man accused of killing a farmer's wife near Lexington, was captured by a posse in Athens and brought to the crime scene where the body was shot and burned. Several thousand people reportedly witnessed the public execution.

Brazos County Adopts Tick Eradication Under Law

In Brazos County on August 11 1919 the commissioners canvassed the August 9 election results showing 480 votes cast with 244 in favor of tick eradication and 186 against. The court declared a majority for eradication and ordered the law in Chapter 60, Regular Session 35th Legislature in force, with publication of the proclamation in the Bryan Daily Eagle.
