Austin E. Burges former Bryan Eagle city editor won first place in the State fair Fitter Family contest under Prof. W E Garnett of Texas A and M College. Thirty six families competed in the Texas first of its kind event supported by public health and eugenics groups. The award will be presented by Senator Sheppard.

Former Federal Student U O Ashley Injured in Accident
Telegram from Corpus Christi reports U O Ashley seriously injured this morning at 10 o clock and taken to St John s Hospital in Corpus Christi. Ashley formerly studied at A and M College at Bryan, leaving last June, with many friends in Bryan and at the college who regret the accident.

Fire destroys Mooring store at Brazos Bottom plantation
A blaze at the J. S. Mooring general store on a Brazos Bottom plantation in Burleson county caused an estimated 12 000 to 15 000 loss. The building worth about 2000 and stock valued at 10 000 to 12 000 burned after 3 am with origin undisclosed. Plantation manager Shoap reported the fire to Bryan as Mooring was in Dallas attending the fair. This follows another mysterious overnight fire, a barn, on the same plantation within months.

Watthuber No 1 gas scare boosts Texas oil showings
The Bryan Petroleum Watthuber No 1 encountered strong gas pressure Thursday evening and narrowly avoided a blow out by mudding the hole. John Vick reports that after gas control the driller reached live oil of high gravity a few feet deeper. Scouts from Morland and Pure Oil note encouraging geology, drawing wide interest beyond local lines.
