President Warren G. Harding spoke in Birmingham on October 26 advocating broader political and educational rights for African Americans while opposing social equality. He urged prohibiting white voting when unfit. This marked his first southern trip as president.

Red Cross Health Week Aids Bryan Children

Red Cross Health Week in Bryan schools led by Mrs. J. T. Hathway and Miss Berry reports 175 children weighed at West Side school with over a quarter found defective. Defects ranged from adenoids and bad tonsils to poor posture and vision, with remedies suggested to parents and cards updated.

Martin Lyall and Ed S Martin wed in Bryan Oklahoma trip planned

Miss Phy lis Lyall of Ardmore and Ed S Martin of Bryan were quietly married at noon today at the bride's mother's home. They left for a bridal trip through Oklahoma and north Texas and will reside in Bryan after November 1. The bride is a Bryan resident and sister of Mrs Ernest Moore. Martin is manager at Steele's Store on the Seth Mooring plantation. Bryan friends extend congratulations.

Par ent-Teachers Meeting Set at Carnegie Library

Cotton market slips as futures end down 55 points

The cotton market was dull with futures closing 55 points lower. Bryan spots middling basis quoted at 1734 cents and cotton seed steady at 28.00 dollars per ton.

Freight Cars Of 10 000 Miles Are Necessary

Louisville article reports that for the first six months of 1921 United States exports totaled 4 011 000 tons across principal commodities. A mile-long string of 1 860 440 freight cars would be required to transport them, with wheat and corn exports showing large gains over 1920. Palestine reports freight service increasing with trains running on every division. Passengers face little disruption while strike leaders express satisfaction with progress. They anticipate G M Anderson of the Brotherhood of Trainmen to arrive from Cleveland to Houston to take charge for the strikers and a complete tie up is expected.

Rangers New Authority Cited Over Strike Duty

Austin Texas October 26 Adjutant General Barton was told by the Attorney General that he lacks authority to appoint rangers on salaries paid by railroad companies or municipalities. Barton said he would appoint extra rangers on strike duty if a strike occurs.

Bank Robbers Loot Hodiamont Bank For 7180

Four bandits robbed the Hodiamont bank near Pressey Street in St. Louis just before noon. They forced five employees and one customer to the floor as about $7,180 was stuffed into sacks and taken in an automobile. Miami sheriff Louis A. Allen declares the man who died by suicide at the Pershing Hotel is not War ren C. Spurgin of Chicago. Fingerprints and photos sent to Chicago, while Miss Vivian Spurgin heads to Miami to verify identity and return the body for burial. Spurgin, a Chicago banker and oil operator, vanished July 21 amid rumors of a $1,000,000 shortfall at Michigan Avenue Trust Co. Identification hinges on the arriving daughter.

On October 23 the First Baptist Church said Sunday school drew 345 attendees with a $13.48 collection while the Young People's meeting evening attendance reached 107. Dr. John A. Held preached at both services to the largest crowds in months and was well received.

Light Travel Reported On I G N Train From San Antonio

A San Antonio delegation rode the I. and G. N. line Monday and reported very light passenger travel with many trains carrying as many employees as passengers. They note high Pullman freight and passenger rates may drive travel down even if a strike occurs on October 30.

The Pure Oil Company of Columbus Ohio announced it bought $2,000,000 of treasury stock in the Humphreys Texas and Mexia companies, pa ying $7,000,000.
