State law relative to autos in force in Texas

City and county officials statewide have been advised by the State Highway Commission that the amended Highway Commission Act, passed at the last special session, is now in force. It imposes penalties for violations and directs motorists to comply. Section 7 covers signals bells horns and related devices and requires lighting of automobile lamps one half hour before sunrise with two white front lights visible 500 feet ahead and one red rear light visible 500 feet behind.

Corn Club Boys Return From Dallas Fair

C L Beason and Brazos county corn club boys spent a week at the Dallas fair returning with a pleasant profitable visit. Attending were Dan Hall Thurman Crenshaw Sam Pat Anna Williams Reagan Warren and Turner Crenshaw Steep Hollow. They toured agricultural exhibits and poultry livestock displays gaining ideas for future farm leadership in Brazos county.

Oct apportionment funds mailed to Texas counties

State Superintendent W F Doughty completes mailing of October school fund warrants totaling 1 225 000 to county depositories. Each of Texas 1 225 000 scholastics receives one dollar for October. It is the second largest annual per capita apportionment in state history.

In Calvert Texas Oct 23 a vigorous campaign for Robertson county prohibition election to be held Oct 24 unfolds with speakers Mrs Simeon Shaw of Houston and Dr J C Hardy of Baylor college in support. Senator W A Collins to speak Monday and an automobile parade Tuesday will tour Robertson county via Franklin Bremond Calvert and Hearne with Cullen F Thomas of Dallas to speak.

Death of Lois Henry Deap at age 15

Lois Henry Deap aged 15 daughter of Mr and Mrs Jesse Henry died this morning at 10 oclock. The family lives about two miles from town on the road to Harvey. The hour of the funeral was not known this morning.

McClennan County Day Narrow Wet Victory

In McClennan County local option vote held Saturday the pros won by more than 500. Only one precinct in Waco went wet the red light precinct. West voted wet while other county precincts stayed dry. The prior election had a 900 vote majority in favor of wet.

Weekend shop floods from floor breach and repair

The shop’s floor gave way dumping seven to eight hundred gallons of water, flooding the store and causing occupants to flee. Repairs were completed. Ed Sims traveled to Clarendon Texas for a vacation after serving at the telephone exchange.

Governor Hobby appoints Mrs B Youngblood as chairman of the Texas Library War Council of Brazos County. Oil Well Blanche L Reaches 100 Feet Depth

President J D Adams in the city reports the Blanche L oil well on Wixon creek about seven and a half miles northeast of Bryan has reached 100 feet this week. Drilling started recently and some gas has been found with encouraging indications.

88 year old Mrs Goodson keeps knitting for soldiers

Mrs L M Goodson, 88, has lived near Smetana on the river for sixty years and has knitted tents for Mexican war era troops in 1848 49 and again 1861 63 during the Civil War. Now she knits for soldiers in France, proud to be the mother of soldiers.
