War costs mount as nations burn through vast sums daily

War is costing belligerent nations at 160 million dollars a day, 6.5 million hourly, with the United States bearing about a quarter of the cost. The Mechanics and Metals National Bank of New York reports the U S leads in spending, followed by Great Britain and Germany, amid about 53 million soldiers involved.
