Brazos county officials plan to issue bonds totaling 1 100 000 after the September 28 vote to fund rural road improvements. County Judge A S McSwain says legal steps will proceed quickly and bids will be sought to cover the project scope.
In a personal column from Anson Texas, W N Wilson discusses good road bonds for Brazos County, notes cotton prices around 17 cents, mule and milk cow markets, and speaks of labor drift from Mexico. He predicts new highways linking Jones County towns and asks about Tabor’s missing correspondent.

Officers and members of the Brazos River Conservation and Reclamation Association held a Brenham conference to discuss watershed matters. Attendees included Jno M Lawrence president E H Astin treasurer A D Jackson secretary George Chance and L M Mims and Rep Leonard Tillotson with John A Norris chair of the state board of water engineers. The group, formed about 15 years ago, aims to harness Brazos waters to curb floods across Burleson Brazos Grimes Fort Bend and Brazoria counties.
Lee Lewis is jailed on suspicion of fatally injuring Will Carter at a negro festival. Both men lived on the Rogers farm at Allen Farm. Lewis reportedly told officials he cut Carter once and did not know the severity of the wound.
There was no change in the cotton market today with new cotton quoted from 18 to 18 12 cents.
The Court of Criminal Appeals affirmed two death sentences and remanded one case. Ben Aldridge of Dallas was affirmed for criminal assault on a young girl on December 19, 1928. A. A. Bergdorf, convicted in Howard County for murder of Charley Wallace on October 22, 1928, was granted a new trial. E. V. Allen's death sentence from Eastland County was affirmed.

Bryan Lions will hold their annual Ladies Night Thursday October 24. The date was announced at the Lions luncheon Tuesday. Special guests will be the president and secretary with their wives from Caldwell and Cameron Lions Clubs. Committees include Decorations led by E. R. Bryant and Bill.
Businesses and residents along College road financed a 1590 foot fine water macadam road with two coats of asphalt at a cost of 1340 dollars. County official Guy F. Boyett supervised the project praising citizen collaboration and county aid potential. Firms listed include Waldrop Co, Ivy, Casey Sparks, Mendal Harnett, Youngblood, Locke, Sозilk, Campus Variety Store, and several Boyetts.
Jack Trim, 22, was sentenced to five years in prison for robbing a drug store last December. The jury convicted him after 26 hours of deliberation.
New Orleans police found no clues after dynamiters set off explosives before daybreak under a street car. The blast derailed the vehicle, wrecked the track, and shattered nearby windows as union street car workers planned a mass meeting amid a 100 day strike.

Albert B. Fall’s condition worsened during the bribery trial in Washington and he was excused from court before the opening statements finished. Government witness W. B. Bull discussed a Sinclair case deposition that had not been entered in court records and could be published during the trial. Fall later showed improved strength and appeared at the session.
A. B. Crouch, accused of obtaining 150000 dollars from a Temple Texas bank years ago, had bail refused and was remanded for a week in Wellington New Zealand because extradition papers had not arrived. He was arrested September 25 and initially granted bail.
The East Texas Chamber of Commerce board will meet in Nacogdoches on October 14 to choose Blanton’s successor as manager before his November 1 move to Houston. A special nominating committee led by John D. Middleton will report, with members R M Kelly L D Gilbert and J Webb Howell attending.
Earl Anderson, a Black man, was shot and killed as he ran from Rupert York's home in Longview. Two Black men in a stolen Marshall car were arrested soon after. no charges filed.
A 100 by 100 foot area in the Sour Lake oil field sank, alarming oil men two miles from Sour Lake. The initial small depression expanded, trees disappeared, and the mood turned low as the event raised fears of further consequences in a field with 25 years of oil production. The nearest well lies 75 feet away.
Dr. L. O. Wilkerson will travel to Chicago to attend the American College of Surgeons meeting October 14 to 18. He departs with his wife and child for Tennessee prior to the trip. registration number 2148 indicates large international attendance.
Walter Armstrong and Brooks Thompson of Tabor tied for first in the corn production guess contest held on L. T. Wilson farm. Lee Blume finished a close third. Plots measured yield with different fertilizer treatments, and the tie earned $9 split between the two winners.
Reliance residents set aside one acre each for a church fund and sell the harvest. The consecrated acres yield larger crops on average than surrounding land, boosting the drive for a new Reliance Baptist church as proceeds go to the building fund.
The Newton-Wallace Produce Company of Jacksonville plans a market and packing shed in Bryan to buy all tomatoes grown on at least 200 acres under expert supervision. They will select varieties and advise on planting to time the harvest for market advantage. A crop estimate is awaited.
Tyler October reports Dr. P. C. Coleman of Colorado elected to preside over the Texas Presbyterian synod for the coming year becoming the fifth layman in 60 years to hold the post.
A two day conference opened at Texas A M College Station with officials from the Texas Bankers Association agricultural committee and the Extension Service staff. Director O B Martin of the Extension Service led the session and C S E Holland of Houston chaired the bankers committee. The program featured three minute reports by Extension staff on their work and how bankers can assist through cooperation.
At the Bryan Presidents Club October session on South College Avenue Mrs. E. H. Astin presided as Mrs. J. Webb Howell retired. Officers elected for the new year were Mrs. S. C. Hoyle as president and Mrs. R. S. Webb as secretary-treasurer. The November gathering will be with Mrs. Albert Buchanan.
Bryan Boy Scout troops plan a Thursday evening event at St Andrew's Episcopal parish house. Scouts will serve supper at 6 30 and seat parents and boys together. Entertainment following is organized by scout master Rev am, with Scouts Ben Dela mater Ai Griffin Edwin Beard and Garvance leading.
