New County Officials Installed In Office

Following the general election the commissioners court canvassed returns issued certificates of election and approved bonds for two years. New county officers include H O Ferguson as county clerk recorder of deeds and marriage licenses, Prof W L Powers as county superintendent, Judge W W Gainer as district judge, and new commissioners C A Buchanan and Charley Distefano with existing members M B Easters and J M Atkins. Other officials largely unchanged. W C Davis re-elected district attorney and John Watson to district judge. state senate seat to BE A Decherd Jr and Oscar Davis to the lower house. The Eagle extends congratulations and offers help for county interests.

Thanks From Brazos County Girls Canning Clubs

Misses Florence and Agnes Conway of Steep Hollow visit the Eagle in Bryan and ask it to express sincere thanks for the support of the Woman's Club and Commercial Club of Bryan. They note special thanks to Mrs. Albert Buchanan Miss Carter of the college Miss Mary Locke and Mrs. J. J. Ray for aiding the girls work in Brazos county. They enjoyed the Dallas fair the domestic science show and the pure food show and plan to continue next year with renewed inspiration.

Allies Purchase Huge Supplies From Iron and Steel Industry

Export sales last week included 250000 tons of shell steel to France and Great Britain at 3 to 4 cents a pound, and 50000 to 75000 tons of pig iron to several countries. Domestic pig iron sales reached 200000 tons while care and locomotive builders added 100000 tons to heavy buys of bars plates and shapes. Railroads ordered 5250 more cars 130 locomotives 20000 tons of track and bridge work. Structural steel activity rose.

Five Die After Collision With Tug In Deutschland Voyage

Five crew members on a tug trailing the Deutschland were drowned when the submersible and the tug collided twenty miles from New London C on Nov 17. Captain Fred Hinesich was the sole survivor, the Deutschland suffered little damage and headed to repair in a few days.
